Best Game of the Season

Nov. 26   Auburn 28 … at Alabama 27
In an all-timer of a comeback, Auburn rallied from down 24-0 in the first half to pull out the Iron Bowl and keep the national title dream alive. Cam Newton was held to 39 rushing yards on 22 carries, but he connected with Emory Blake for a 36-yard touchdown pass late in the first half, found Terrell Zachery for a 70-yard touchdown in the first minute of the second half, and rumbled for a one-yard score to get the Tigers back in the game. Bama increased its lead to six late in the third quarter on a 32-yard Jeremy Shelley field goal, but Newton led the way on an 11-play, 67-yard drive culminating in a seven-yard touchdown pass to Philip Lutzenkirchen, and Alabama couldn’t answer, failing to get closer than the Tiger 40 on the final two drives. The Tide got off to a roaring start as Mark Ingram ran for a nine-yard touchdown and Greg McElroy, who threw for 335 yards in the first half, connected with Julio Jones on a 68-yard touchdown pass and Darius Hanks from 12 yards out, but mistakes and miscues helped keep Auburn alive on the way to a 27-3 run over the final 35:09.
