1. Alabama
2010 CFN Final Ranking: 10
CFN Record: 10-3
2010 CFN Preseason Rank: 1
CFN 2010 Preseason Prediction: 10-2
2009 Final Ranking: 1
2008 Final Ranking: 7

The Tide loses Mark Ingram, Julio Jones, Greg McElroy, and OT James Carpenter, and Marcell Dareus is taking off early from the defensive line ... and the Tide will probably win the national title. Phillip Sims and A.J. McCarron will battle it out for the starting quarterback job, and Trent Richardson will go from great No. 2 to the feature back of an attack that should get more from an offensive line with four starters returning. All the offense will have to do is score once thanks to a defense that was in rebuilding mode and finished fifth in the nation. No one will score on a Tide D with eight starters returning including LB Dont'a Hightower, who should be in the NFL right now, and with the ultra-talented secondary about to be oh-my-goodness amazing after starting three sophomores and a freshman. The kicking game that was supposed to be an issue last year with two new, untested starters was just fine, and WRs Marquis Maze and Darius Hanks will handle the return duties, along with keeping the passing game working.

2. LSU
2010 CFN Final Ranking: 12
2010 Record: 11-2
2010 CFN Preseason Rank: 22
CFN 2010 Preseason Prediction: 9-3
2009 Final Ranking: 27
2008 Final Ranking: 40

The anemic offense might lose RB Stevan Ridley and WR Terrence Toliver, but four starters are back on the offensive line and QB Jordan Jefferson can't help but be better. He can't be as inconsistent. The defense should be a brick wall with seven starters returning and CB Tyrann Mathieu ready to step in and shine in place of Thorpe winner Patrick Peterson. The defensive tackles need to be replaced, with Drake Nevis and Lazarius Levingston sure to be missed, but the Tigers always have players at the ready for the interior. No one will throw on the secondary, while the passing game should be stronger with Russell Shepard and Deangelo Peterson returning to make Jefferson's life easier.

3. Arkansas
2010 CFN Final Ranking: 17
2010 Record: 10-3
2010 CFN Preseason Rank: 19
CFN 2010 Preseason Prediction: 8-4
2009 Final Ranking: 28
2008 Final Ranking: 72

Shhhhhh. Here's the secret that no one around Arkansas is telling. The team might be better without Ryan Mallett. Tyler Wilson has the ability to do the same things as Mallett, although without the same arm, while the offense should now revolve even more around Knile Davis and a pounding running game that should be fine with a little retooling. The receiving corps is still devastating and the defense should be even stronger with eight starters returning including most of the defensive front seven.

4. Mississippi State
2010 CFN Final Ranking: 33
2010 Record: 9-4
010 CFN Preseason Rank: 45
CFN 2010 Preseason Prediction: 6-6
2009 Final Ranking: 62
2008 Final Ranking: 91

Welcome to the hot bandwagon everyone will jump on. The Bulldogs didn't actually beat anyone last year, but they still finished well and have the potential to be even nastier with eight starters back on offense and seven returning on defense. The line loses OT Derek Sherrod and C J.C. Brignone, but everything else is in place to pound away with RB Vick Ballard to QB Chris Relf ready to become bigger stars. The defense loses end Pernell McPhee and the entire linebacking corps, but the secondary will be outstanding and the tackles have the potential to be excellent.

5. Auburn
2010 CFN Final Ranking: 1
2010 Record: 14-0
2010 CFN Preseason Rank: 23
CFN 2010 Preseason Prediction: 8-4
2009 Final Ranking: 33
2008 Final Ranking: 81

Enjoy the 2010 National Championship t-shirts. Welcome to payback time for a team that was so loaded with veterans and so reliant on two of the best players in college football. Cam Newton is gone to the NFL meaning the offense will now revolve completely around Michael Dyer, Onterio McCalebb and the running game early on. Four starters are gone from the offensive line, while the defensive front has to undergo a major rebuilding job with Nick Fairley and Antoine Carter done. The loss of PK Wes Byrum will also hurt. Fortunately, offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn is back and things won't fall off the map, but the team will take a major step back.

6. Ole Miss
2010 CFN Score: 98
2010 Record: 4-8
2010 CFN Preseason Rank: 25
CFN 2010 Preseason Prediction: 9-3
2009 Final Ranking: 25
2008 Final Ranking: 15

After two shockingly strong seasons, the Rebels took a major step back in a bizarre 2010. Even with QB Jeremiah Masoli gone, 2011 should be far stronger with nine starters returning on offense including all five starters on the line and running backs Brandon Bolden and Enrique Davis to handle the ground game. QB Nathan Stanley will be more than fine, but he needs more out of his receivers. The defensive front needs work, but the secondary has some nice pieces to work around.
