40. Virginia Tech at Georgia Tech, Nov. 10

The two Coastal powers have played three straight terrific games. The 28-21 win last year was one of the big keys to the Hokies’ championship season, while the 28-23 Yellow Jacket victory of 2009 was a springboard to a title. This year, Virginia Tech gets a week off to prepare for option, but Georgia Tech also gets a week off before finishing up with Duke.

39. Western Michigan at Northern Illinois, Oct. 15

Yeah, yeah, yeah, the MAC might not register on the national radar, but this will be worth the watch. WMU should be loaded with QB Alex Carder leading what should be one of the nation’s better passing games, while the Huskie ground game needs to control the game. The 28-21 win was NIU’s only close call in MAC play before the title game, and it should be another big fight.

38. Houston at Tulsa, Nov. 26

Fine, so this might not be first on your radar in late November, but it should be a phenomenal shootout as long as Houston’s Case Keenum is healthy and Tulsa QB G.J. Kinne is having the big statistical season he’s supposed to. This should determine the West title, and if nothing else, if all goes according to plan, there should be 100 points and well over 1,000 yards of total offense.

37. Penn State at Ohio State, Nov. 19

The Buckeyes have blown away the Nittany Lions in four of the last five years, and this year if could be even bigger with both teams looking to take control of the Leaders. Coming the week before the Michigan game, OSU will have to focus on its home finale, while Penn State will be coming off the Nebraska game before closing out at Wisconsin.

36. Florida State at Clemson, Sept. 24

We’ve all moved past the Bowden Bowl era, but this should once again have a big impact on the ACC season with the winner almost certain to represent the Atlantic in the championship. The Tigers will be coming off what should be an emotional war at home against Auburn, while the Seminoles have a nice little layup against an Oklahoma team that’s likely to be No. 1. It’s the ACC opener, and it should be a great one.

35. Connecticut at Pitt, Oct. 26

The two came up with a thrilling battle last year with Jordan Todman pounding his way to the win and a big step towards the BCS. This year, the Huskies get a week off before going to Pittsburgh, and they’ll need it after starting out the Big East year with a trip to West Virginia and with a date against USF. Pitt gets a week off, to prepare and can’t afford to blow it with road dates at Louisville and West Virginia still to deal with.

34. West Virginia at South Florida, Dec. 1

USF had beaten the Mountaineers three times in four years, and then Bill Stewart and WVU came up with a 20-6 win last year in what seemed like a big moment in the Big East race. Instead, the team lost the next two games against Syracuse and UConn and spent the rest of the year chasing. The Bulls and Skip Holtz have to come up with the win in the regular season finale, and they’ll have to be ready to play in Morgantown in December.

33. Texas A&M at Oklahoma, Nov. 5

The Aggies shocked Oklahoma 33-19 last season, but now the stakes should be even higher. The Aggies have to go to Norman a week after playing Missouri, and with a trip to Kansas State and the rivalry date with Texas still to deal with, this could be a must win to have any hope of winning the Big 12 title. The sooner should be in the midst of a nice run with at Kansas, Texas Tech, and at Kansas State before, and with Iowa State and at Baylor to follow.

32. Texas at Missouri, Nov. 12

What used to be an interdivisional game is now just another big conference date. While Missouri might have been strong over the last few years, it hasn’t been remotely close to touching the Longhorns in the last six meetings going back to a 37-29 Tiger win in 1997. Texas will be coming off the Texas Tech game, and this is the one road date in a four-week stretch, while Mizzou will be at home again after going to Texas A&M and Baylor.

31. Michigan State at Ohio State, Oct. 1

It was the game that needed to happen last year to put a bow on the conference title, but instead the two teams finished in a three way tie with Wisconsin. It’s an interdivision battle this year, and it’s the last game of the suspensions for the Ohio State Fast Five before going to Nebraska for what should be the biggest game of the Big Ten season. The Spartans go to Notre Dame a few weeks before, but if they win there, a win in Columbus will mean a 5-0 start going into an off-week, and then come the monster dates against Michigan, Wisconsin, and at Nebraska.
