Q: While he might have to say the right things, really, is Brady Hoke looking to blow everything up from the Rich Rodriguez era? Will the experience translate into production on defense?
From Tom Beaver, GoBlueWolverine.com … The Michigan defense was already blown up, so on that side of the ball it's a matter of Hoke and new DC Greg Mattison putting the pieces back together again. The good thing is, the cupboard isn't empty talent-wise - the talent was just very young last year - so things should improve quickly there.
On the offensive side, yes, the spread is history and Denard Robinson will be taking most of his snaps under center. The pro-style offense is back at Michigan, with tight ends and man-blocking. Fortunately there's lots of talent at receiver and on the offensive line, but the running backs corps has to prove itself. So -- we'll all find out together how Robinson does with this new system. Hope is high.
Conventional wisdom would be to say, "How's the defense look?" But, actually, that's too hard to tell from springtime team-on-team scrimmaging, especially when the offense is learning a new system. For the D, people will have to wait until fall to see. So, for the spring, the big question is: Will Denard still look fast taking a snap and backing up - then handing off, passing or taking off? In other words, will Robinson be a Heisman Candidate running a pro-style offense?
