Q: Is the Florida offense going to drop the Urban Meyer-type spread entirely? How’s the mood compared to the previous seasons under Meyer?

From Bob Redman, FightingGators.com … The Florida offense is going to look a lot different under Charlie Weis as the offensive coordinator at Florida than under the coordinators Urban Meyer employed with less spread and very little option in the package. Two receiver sets should be more the norm, especially when Weis gets the personnel at tight end and fullback on the squad that he needs to run the offense as he wishes.

The mood seems great at this time, it also seems like the heads of the players are swimming a little bit with everything they are taking in. This is a talented team and the players know it. They also know they are still a young team with only nine seniors on the entire squad, so their lack of maturity is something they’ll have to overcome. But, the youth adds to the positive vibe and the young guys know that any of them can take a starting job, so the competition is fierce.

The biggest thing the spring needs to produce for the Gators is a quarterback that can stay calm, sit in the pocket, and throw to a bevy of fast and talented receivers. Senior John Brantley struggled a year ago, but appears to be having a good spring so far and is ahead of freshmen Tyler Murphy and hotshot newcomer Jeff Driskel. Experience goes a long way with every staff, and Brantley has plenty of that.
