2011 CFN Preseason Independent Offensive Player

WR Michael Floyd, Sr, Notre Dame

Minnesota’s former Mr. Football hasn’t had too much luck staying healthy, suffering a broken collarbone in 2009 and a leg injury in 2008. Even so, he’s been ultra-productive whenever he’s been on the field, leading the team with 79 catches for 1,025 yards and 12 touchdowns last season despite missing the Navy game. He score twice against Michigan State, caught 11 passes for 104 yards and two touchdown against Tulsa, and ripped up Miami for 109 yards and two scores. At 6-3 and 228 pounds he has the size and the hands, but he’ll have to prove at the Combine next year that he’s not a 4.6ish runner, he has to prove he can stay healthy and he has to get back in everyone’s good graces.

2011 CFN Preseason Indepdent Defensive Player

LB Manti Te'o, Jr. Notre Dame

The team’s leading tackler made 133 stops with a sack and 9.5 tackles for loss, but the best defensive prospect recruited by Charlie Weis can do even more. There are few more instinctive linebackers in college football and no one brings as much thump as the 6-2, 255-pounder, but he needs to be a bit more patient. Yeah, he came up with 13 tackles against Navy and he made 21 against Stanford, but he overran plays here and there. That’s about it for the nitpicking considering he’s a peerless sideline-to-sideline playmaker, will run about a 4.6 at the Combine, and has huge, huge hitting skills. He won’t make too many plays in the backfield, but that won’t be his job this year with the line doing more of the work.
