Week 4 CFN Fearless Prediction & Game Story - Sam Houston State at New Mexico

Sept. 24 Sam Houston State 48 … New Mexico 45 OT
CFN Analysis: It was a fun game with wild swings and a ton of offense in the double-overtime thriller, but New Mexico still lost to an FCS team. B.R. Holbrook and Tarean Austin combined to throw for 434 yards and four touchdowns, and Deon Long was amazing with nine catches for 209 yards and three touchdowns, to go along for a kickoff return for a score and his touchdown grab to force overtime, but the Lobo run defense was miserable, allowing SHSU's Tim Flanders to run for five scores. The O line continues to be awful and the run defense is non-existent, but New Mexico State comes into town next week. If the Lobos can't win, they won't come within ten of anyone else but UNLV in mid-November.

(AP) ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Tim Flanders scored his fifth touchdown of the game in overtime Saturday to help San Houston State defeat New Mexico 48-45.

New Mexico's Deon Long, who returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, caught three touchdown passes, including the game-tying score with 27 seconds remaining in regulation to cap an 80-yard drive.

But the Bearkats (3-0) held UNM (0-4) to a field goal in overtime.

Flanders, who finished with a career-best 194 yards on 30 carries, took it over from four yards out for the win.

Long had nine receptions for 209 yards and his 378 all-purpose yards set a school and Mountain West record.

The teams combined for 1,075 yards of offense.
