Week 6 CFN Fearless Prediction & Game Story - Florida Atlantic at North Texas

Oct. 8 at North Texas 31 … Florida Atlantic 17
CFN Analysis: Amazingly, North Texas was able to come away with the win over the Owls without Lance Dunbar going nuts. The 24 third quarter points came from a defense that forced big play after big play and ended up with four takeaways. Zachary Orr was a monster making 12 tackles with two sacks, while Royce Hill was terrific with four broken up passes, four tackles, and a pick. The play of the defense masked an offense that didn’t work, but no matter how it happened, UNT has won two of its last three games going into a huge game at Louisiana-Lafayette. The O line is playing well enough to keep the hot Ragin’ Cajun D line from dominating.

There was some thought that FAU wasn’t that bad, but it just so happened to play a lot of great teams. This game showed the team is bad. To be fair, this was the end of the brutal five-game road stretch to start the season. Next week against WKU will be FAU’s first game at home, and that has to mean more consistency and fewer mistakes from the offense. FAU was in the game before giving up turnover after turnover in the third quarter. There’s no excuse whatsoever to not score in the first half and to come up with just three points in the first three quarters against a defense as mediocre as UNT’s. On the plus side, Randell Johnson and the defense weren’t bad, with Johnson making 11 tackles and a sack, but it wasn’t enough to overcome all the offensive mistakes.

(AP) DENTON, Texas -- North Texas returned two interceptions for touchdowns in a span of 10 seconds Saturday en route to a 31-17 victory over Florida Atlantic.

Royce Hill picked off a pass from Graham Wilbert and returned it 85 yards for a score with 7:21 remaining in the third quarter. On Florida Atlantic's next play from scrimmage, Wilbert was intercepted again, this time by Steven Ford who returned it 15 yards for a touchdown and a 24-0 North Texas lead.

Lance Dunbar added 105 yards rushing and a touchdown for the Mean Green (2-4, 1-1 Sun Belt).

Alfred Morris had 162 yards rushing for Florida Atlantic (0-5, 0-2), including a 28-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Wilbert finished with three interceptions while completing 10 of 30 passes for 95 yards.
