Three Biggest Surprises
1. Illinois. The schedule might not be all that great, but the 6-0 start was terrific.
2. Penn State at 6-1 with a passing game that’s so bad. The Alabama loss was expected, but the Nittany Lions are alive in the Big Ten chase with one of the nation’s worst quarterback situations.
3. Nebraska’s second half against Ohio State. Just when it looked like the Huskers were dead after getting blown out at Wisconsin and with an ugly first half against the Buckeyes, the offensive line took over on the way to a 34-27 win.

Three Biggest Disappointments
1. The conference. It’s awful. Indiana and Minnesota might be the two worst BCS teams, and no one’s looking great on a national scale outside of Wisconsin.
2. Ohio State. Yeah, there have been a slew of issues and problems, but the talent is still there to complete more than one pass against Illinois. A team with so many four and five-star talents should be far better on both sides of the ball.
3. Northwestern. No one was expecting a Big Ten title, but the loss to Army and an 0-3 Big Ten start signal a regression for a team expected to be in the bowl picture.

Three Best Performances So Far

2. Iowa QB James Vandenberg completed 31-of-48 passes for 399 yards and three scores and a pick, and he ran for a score, keying the greatest comeback in school history in the win over Pitt.
3. Nebraska QB Taylor Martinez completed 16-of-22 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns with an interception and ran 17 times for 102 yards and a score in the win over Ohio State.

3 Big Calls For The Second Half
1. The Big Ten will step back in the realignment and expansion debate. It’ll come in with an 11th hour offer to Missouri just before it’s about to sign on with the SEC.
2. Minnesota will lose each of its final six games by 20 points or more.
3. Iowa will finish well. The last six games are against Indiana, at Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State, at Purdue, and at Nebraska. The Hawkeyes will go 4-2.
