Three Biggest Surprises
1. Ball State. The Cardinals weren't expected to make much of a splash after a rough 2010, but they came up with a shocking win in the opener over Indiana and did a good job on the way to a 4-3 start and a 2-0 MAC beginning.
2. Eastern Michigan at 4-3. The wins over Howard and Alabama State were expected, and beating Akron wasn't a stunner, but the win over Central Michigan on the road was big. The program hasn't won more than four games since 1995, and now it needs just one more victory for the best season in well over a decade.
3. Temple 38, Maryland 7. The Owls were supposed to be down and depressed after a tough loss to Penn State, but instead, Chester Stewart completed 9-of-9 passes for 140 yards and Bernard Pierce ran for 149 yards and five touchdowns in the shocker.

Three Biggest Disappointments
1. Kent State. New head coach Darrell Hazell was supposed to make the offense better, but instead, the Golden Flash offense has been miserable, ranking last in the nation in scoring and yards, while the defense has taken a step back with the pass rush not working anywhere near as well as it did last year.
2. Miami University. With the exception of the coaching staff, most of the key parts were back from the MAC champion team of last year, but the offense has been lousy and the defense has struggled. The punting game is the worst in the country.
3. Western Michigan's pass protection against Michigan. Before the game was called because of weather, the Broncos were outplaying the Wolverines in several ways, but the O line couldn't stop the Michigan blitzes and the close game turned into a 34-10 blowout.

RB Anthon Samuel, Bowling Green

Three Big Calls For The Second Half
1. It'll be the best battle for the MAC Player of the Year in conference history between NIU quarterback Chandler Harnish, Temple running back Bernard Pierce, and Western Michigan WR Jordan White. Harnish will get the nod.
2. Pierce will break the 30 touchdown mark.
3. Including a bowl game, White will finish the year with over 130 catches,
