Three Biggest Surprises
1. Wyoming at 4-2. The Cowboys looked like a possible disaster coming into the season with a mess of a quarterback situation and little experience across the board, but now they’re in the hunt for a bowl.
2. Nordly Capi. Colorado State didn’t even see it coming. The sophomore is one of the nation’s sack leaders with eight in six games.
3. Deon Long. The New Mexico freshman is tied for the Mountain West lead in receiving yards per game.
Three Biggest Disappointments
1. TCU’s defense. The Horned Frogs always reload. Not this year. The defense is a pedestrian 66th in the nation allowing 391 yards per game and it’s giving up 25.5 points per game.
2. Air Force. This was supposed to be the best team in the Troy Calhoun era, but the defense has been a nightmare – ranking second-worst in the nation – and the usually stout pass defense has been miserable. Turnovers, no time of possession, and a defense that’s giving up 435 yards and 35.5 points per game; this isn’t what Air Force is supposed to be.
3. Pete Thomas. The Colorado State quarterback was expected to step up his game and become one of the league’s best playmakers. He’s been fine, but he’s only thrown six touchdown passes with six picks with most of his production coming in the loss to San Jose State. He needs more help around him.

Three Big Calls For The Second Half
1. San Diego State will give Boise State a tougher game than TCU will.
2. New Mexico and UNLV will each lose every remaining game by 20 points or more – except when they play each other.
3. Boise State won’t go anywhere. It’ll stay in the Mountain West to be a part of the new super-conference.
