Three Biggest Surprises
1. Vanderbilt. New head coach James Franklin is a true believer who thinks Vanderbilt football can be the real deal, and his team is playing like it with a 3-3 start with winnable games against Army, Kentucky, and Wake Forest left to go. The defense got the job done over the first three games.
2. Jarrett Lee. Yeah, the Tigers were expected to be good, ranked No. 1 in the preseason in some places, but the Achilles heel was supposed to be the passing game with or without Jordan Jefferson. The much-maligned Lee has been terrific, ranking second in the SEC in passing efficiency hitting 11 touchdown passes and just one pick.
3. Auburn. With so much turnover from the national championship team, and with a brutal schedule, the potential was there for the Tigers to struggle just to finish with a winning record. After beating South Carolina, Mississippi State, and Florida, they’re still in the hunt for the SEC title. They won’t come close to winning it and they have a slew of problems, but they didn’t fall off the map.

Three Biggest Disappointments
1. The SEC. LSU and Alabama are probably the two best teams in America, and Arkansas is terrific. The rest of the conference ranges from mediocre to awful. Starting out with Georgia’s loss to Boise State and Auburn’s near-miss against Utah State, the league hasn’t been up to the hype outside of the superstars up top.
2. South Carolina. The talent was there to be in the national title chase, but the offense has been a stunning disaster. Stephen Garcia is gone, Marcus Lattimore suffered a season-ending knee injury, and Alshon Jeffery has been a no-show, for the most part, because of the poor quarterback play.
3. The SEC quarterbacks. Tennessee’s Tyler Bray is looking like a franchise player to work around, but he suffered a broken thumb. Florida’s season went into the tank after losing John Brantley, and South Carolina’s Stephen Garcia was booted off the team. Morgan Newton and the Kentucky passing game have been next-level awful, and Vanderbilt has one of the least-efficient passing attacks in the country.

The SEC Champion Will Be ... Alabama over Georgia

Three Best Performances So Far
1. LSU S Tyrann Mathieu made ten tackles, a half a tackle for loss, two broken up passes, a forced fumble, and a recovery for a score in the 40-27 win over Oregon.
2. Arkansas QB Tyler Wilson completed 30-of-51 passes for 510 yards and three scores in the win over Texas A&M.
3. South Carolina RB Marcus Lattimore ran 37 times for 246 yards and three score, and caught four passes for 25 yards, in the win over Navy.

Top Freshman
RB Isaiah Crowell, Georgia

Three Big Calls For The Second Half
1. Arkansas will be 10-1 going into the LSU game with a chance to go to the BCS for the second year in a row.
2. Trent Richardson will win the Heisman after a good day against LSU and a great day against everyone else.
3. The ACC will go 3-0 – Clemson over South Carolina, Georgia Tech over Georgia, and Florida State over Florida - in regular season finale rivalry games.
