Three Biggest Surprises
1. Louisiana-Lafayette. There was a ton of work to be done for Mark Hudspeth and the new coaching staff, but everything came together right away. The loss to Oklahoma State to open the season isn't all that bad, and then everything has fallen into place ever since. There are problems on both sides of the ball, but the Ragin' Cajuns are finding ways to win.
2. Arkansas State. The Red Wolves were supposed to be decent, but head coach Hugh Freeze has put together a terrific team off to the best start in its history. At 5-2 overall and 3-0 in Sun Belt play, they're in the hunt for the title.
3. North Texas 24, Indiana 21. Dan McCarney's first win as the Mean Green head coach wasn't supposed to come over a team from the Big Ten, but he'll take it. UNT had shown nothing to suggest it could've pulled a win off a BCS team.

Three Biggest Disappointments
1. Troy and its offense. The Trojans always put out big-time offenses that make up for a slew of other mistakes. Instead, the Trojans have been a nightmare on both sides of the ball on the way to a 2-4 start and a 1-2 Sun Belt start. It's rebuilding time.
2. FIU's collapse. After destroying North Texas and beating Louisville and UCF, the Golden Panthers appeared ready to dominate the Sun Belt. Instead, they lost at home to the Ragin' Cajuns, and then came the loss to Arkansas State to all but end the repeat hopes.
3. Florida Atlantic. No one was expecting a championship, but the Owls have been one of the nation's worst teams over the first half. The lowlight came against Michigan State, losing 44-0 and coming up with 51 yards of total offense and one first down.

The Sun Belt Champion Will Be ... Arkansas State

2. Louisiana-Lafayette QB Blaine Gautier made 26-of-33 passes for 329 yards and two scores, and ran ten times for 31 yards in the win over Florida Atlantic.
3. Arkansas State WR Dwayne Frampton caught 13 passes for 147 yards and a score in the win over ULM.

Top Freshman
LB Andrae Kirk, Florida Atlantic

Three Big Calls For The Second Half
1. Lance Dunbar will bounce back. The North Texas star hasn't been awful over the first half of the year with 533 yards and four scores, but he hasn't been sensational. He'll be sensational over the final month.
2. Arkansas State will run the regular season table to finish 10-2.
3. Western Kentucky linebacker Andrew Jackson will be the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year, and running back Bobby Rainey will be the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year.
