Not a lot had been going on in the recruiting process for Katy (TX) Cinco Ranch punter Jack Steed. Many times, it is tough for these specialists to find a place willing to drop them a scholarship offer.
But it seems as though the 6-foot-5, 200-pound Steed has found the ideal situation.
“Oklahoma wanted him, but the current punter has one more season. So Steed will gray shirt in the fall and learn from the current punter,” Cinco Ranch coach Don Clayton informed Fox Sports Next. “The current punter finishes the 2012 season and graduates in December. They put Jack on scholarship in January 2013. Steed counts on the 2013 class.”
Steed is a player who averages in the mid 40s on his punts and has a long of 63 yards. With how tough it typically is for players in the kicking game to get picked up, Clayton said that this situation is all right.
“This is a pretty good deal for Jack. He will be an outstanding punter at the college level,” Clayton said.
