Boston College
The backfield has plenty of options. The beleaguered Eagles offense can take solace in the fact that erratic QB Chase Rettig is a year older, and that all-time leading rusher Montel Harris was granted a medical redshirt year. He’ll join Tahj Kimble, Andre Williams and Rolandan Finch to give BC one of the ACC’s deepest ground attacks.

Clemson
The offense boasts an embarrassment of riches at the skill positions. If you liked Chad Morris’ system a year ago, just wait until QB Tajh Boyd, RB Andre Ellington and receivers Sammy Watkins and DeAndre Watkins get their second turn at it. The Tigers should be among the nation’s most explosive programs.

Florida State
The Seminoles will have no shortage of returning starters on either side of the ball or on special teams. The quarterback, senior-to-be EJ Manuel, is now a seasoned veteran, and a handful of injured ‘Noles are expected to be back at full strength in time for offseason camp.

Maryland
Just about everyone is back on defense, including former All-ACC performer Kenny Tate, who missed the season with an injury. Joe Vellano is a vastly underrated defensive tackle, and the linebackers figure to cover plenty of ground. In general, the Terps were a very young team in 2011.

NC State
The Wolfpack has cornerstone players back on both sides of the ball. On offense, QB Mike Glennon is prepared to improve his 2013 NFL draft grade, while making a push for All-ACC honors. The defense will be led by All-American CB David Amerson, who’s capable of cutting off half the field against opposing passers.

Wake Forest
The Demon Deacons have very high hopes for a backfield comprised of two juniors, QB Tanner Price and RB Josh Harris. Price really came into his own in 2011, tossing 20 touchdowns to just six picks. Harris has feature back qualities, but spent most of his sophomore season dealing with a nagging hamstring injury.

Duke
QB Sean Renfree is back for his senior year. Now that he’s spent four seasons with head coach David Cutcliffe, Renfree is poised to flourish in his final whirl in Durham. He cut down on his mistakes in 2011, the first integral step toward becoming one of the league’s more dangerous passers.

Georgia Tech
Just about everyone is back on offense. Returning to the Flats are QB Tevin Washington, the team’s top three rushers and all five starting offensive linemen. The Yellow Jackets’ triple-option is about proper execution, which won’t be so much of a concern with this experienced, veteran collection of talent.

Miami
Al Golden returns for his second season with the school. Considering all of the off-the-field mayhem that he stepped into, no one would have blamed the coach for bolting at the end of 2011 for a more stable environment. Instead, he reiterated his commitment to the Hurricanes, which desperately need his discipline and vision in order to reverse field in the future.

North Carolina
The backfield has the ingredients to be among the best in recent program history. Giovani Bernard, the first Tar Heels RB to rush for 1,000 yards since Jonathan Linton did in 1997, was just a redshirt freshman last season. Bryn Renner led the ACC in passing efficiency as just a sophomore. The pair, now a year older, figures to be a year better in Larry Fedora’s talent-friendly system.

Virginia
The two-headed running game of Perry Jones and Kevin Parks is back to run behind enormous and gifted tackles Oday Aboushi and Morgan Moses. The pair combined for 14 touchdowns and more than 1,600 yards on the ground, each giving opposing defenses a very different look with which to contend.

Virginia Tech
After employing a slew of sophomores in 2011, Bud Foster’s defense should rank among the nation’s best this fall. Not only are there returning all-stars at every level of the defense but DT Antoine Hopkins and linebackers Bruce Taylor and Jeron Gouveia-Winslow are all expected back after missing chunks of the year to injury.
