Q: Is Clemson over the Orange Bowl? How did that affect the offseason? What did the team seem to learn from that and the struggles at the end of the season?

From Roy Philpott, http://clemson.scout.com … What did the team learn? That it needs help on defense. Dabo Swinney and defensive coordinator Kevin Steele parted ways before Oklahoma defensive coordinator Brent Venables was brought on to change the mentality. He'll play more of a mix of a man and zone coverage and will also depend on younger talent at linebacker this coming season as a start. While Clemson lost three of four starters up front, plus its top cover corner, there's a sense this unit could still be better this coming season with a new leader at the helm.

Offensively, despite breaking numerous school records a season ago, they want to get better in the running game and more physical at the point of attack. The offensive staff visited Nevada and Oklahoma State for new ideas here and it is possible you could see more of the pistol formation (which has been a mainstay for Nevada over the years) used as a new wrinkle installed by offensive coordinator Chad Morris.

What’s the biggest insider storyline from this spring that the average fan should know about?

They moved Tyler Shatley from defensive tackle to guard. The offensive line was a bit of question having lost three starters from last year's squad, but the move of Shatley has looked very good thus far this spring and has truly helped ease those concerns. Clemson's offensive line last year was average at-best. Imagine what they can do if some these younger players can step up and become more consistent.
