We paid attention to the spring scrimmages so you didn't have to. Here's what you need to know from the big spring games this weekend.

East Carolina
The annual spring game couldn’t help head coach Ruffin McNeill decide his muddled quarterback situation. It’ll still be a four-man race in the summer, though Rio Johnson posted the best numbers of the Purple-Gold game, completing 17-of-23 for 153 yards.

Southern Miss
The Golden Eagles had a two-man duel to replace Austin Davis at quarterback when spring drills started. They still do. Junior Chris Campbell and redshirt freshman Ricky Lloyd both showed flashes in Hattiesburg, but were unable to padlock the opening.

UCF
Sophomore Blake Bortles continued to take hold of the quarterback job in Orlando, completing 27-of-45 passes for 239 yards and a touchdown. With the competition expected to get tougher in the summer, Bortles has not retreated over the past month.

Houston
QB David Piland was sharp in his first visible audition as Case Keenum’s successor, completing 21-of-27 passes for 276 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He spread the ball around to a receiving corps that’ll have a very new look in 2012.
