2012 CFN Preseason WAC Off. Player of the Year - Senior WR Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech

Coming off a great spring last year with rave reviews from the coaching staff, the 6-1, 195-pound former JUCO transfer blew up at the Z finishing with a team-leading 79 catches for 1,202 yards and 11 scores with a 211-yard day against Central Arkansas, 11 catches against Mississippi State and a seven-catch, 162-yard, one touchdown day against Nevada. The first-team All-WAC performer is a complete performer with speed, hands and great route running ability. He’s the team’s gamebreaker with WAC Player of the Year potential.

2012 CFN Preseason WAC Def. Player of the Year - Junior LB Keith Smith, San Jose State

Smith got thrown into the fire as a true freshman and he was phenomenal, leading the team with 115 tackles with four sacks and 14 tackles for loss as one of the best all-around defenders in the WAC. Last year he ended up doing it all again with a team-leading 104 tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss. He’s not huge at 6-1 and 229 pounds, but he’s a phenomenal tackler with great range, and now he’ll be turned loose even more on the outside and could be an even more dangerous pass rusher. More than anything else, though, he’ll be the key factor against the run with ten double-digit tackling games in the last 17.
