2012 Preseason SEC Offensive Player of the Year

Tyler Wilson, QB Arkansas

If South Carolina RB Marcus Lattimore is really and truly all back full after suffering a knee injury, he's going to be the Player of the Year, however, there's still a little bit of a question mark about whether or not he'll be able to hold up. Even if he's great, Tyler Wilson will still be in the mix for the honor of being the SEC's best player. Wilson is 6-3 and 220 pounds with an NFL gun and the right mentality to be the team’s leader and steadying force. An Arkansas high school superstar, he won three state titles and threw for close to 4,000 yards and 42 touchdowns as a senior. The prep résumé is great, but that’s in the distant past now. He could’ve been a first round NFL draft pick had he left early, but if everything goes according to plan, he should be a top ten selection if he can have another excellent season.

2012 Preseason SEC Defensive Player of the Year

Sam Montgomery, DE LSU

The tackles might be the strength of another great Tiger D, but it's the 6-4, 245-pound pass rushing terror who led the team with nine sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss with 49 tackles. There was some question about whether or not he’d be able to hold up after suffering a season-ending knee injury as a freshman, but he was just as speedy and just as great around the corner. Ultra-consistent with a great frame and the room to get a little bit bigger, he’s in a salary drive and should be a first-round draft pick if and when he chooses to come out early.
