Week 2 CFN Fearless Prediction - Presbyterian at Georgia Tech
|
Presbyterian (1-0) at Georgia Tech (0-1) Sept. 8, 7:00, ESPN3
Here’s The Deal: Georgia Tech will need to have a short memory after dropping a heartbreaker to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg Monday night. By design, the team will get a break this week with a visit from one of the weakest members of the FCS. The Yellow Jackets played better than expected at Lane Stadium, a performance that the staff hopes will be a harbinger of things to come in 2012. Presbyterian enjoyed its version of a tune-up in Week 1, bullying Division II Brevard 45-10. The Blue Hose are coming off a 4-7 campaign, but have won three straight games dating back to Nov. 12.
Why Presbyterian Might Win: The offense is a run-based attack that looks to RB Lance Byrd for its lead. The senior has rushed for more than 100 yards in four of the last five games, including in the opener. Demarcus Rouse also chipped in 83 yards and three scores in the opener. Presbyterian will be facing a Tech front that played well in Blacksburg, but is still a little light on numbers.
Why Georgia Tech Might Win: When it comes to running the ball, the Blue Hose are the students and the Yellow Jackets will be the teachers. After getting hemmed in by Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech will be itching to unleash its vaunted running game Saturday night. Veteran QB Tevin Washington, along with top backs David Sims and Orwin Smith, will be greeted by gaping holes whenever they head up the field.
What To Watch Out For: After exceeding expectations with its play on Monday, Al Groh’s defense is hoping to maintain that level of play throughout the year. The sparkplugs will continue to be LB Jeremiah Attaochu and CB Rod Sweeting, two veterans well-trained in the art of making plays without boundaries.
What Will Happen: The Yellow Jackets will have a very difficult time getting up for this game, but at least the opponent will be no threat on the scoreboard. Presbyterian will be no match for Georgia Tech, who’ll pile up more than 400 yards on the ground, and empty the sidelines after halftime.
CFN Prediction: Georgia Tech 58 … Presbyterian 10
