Week 2 CFN Fearless Prediction – Sacramento State at Colorado

- CFN Fearless Predictions

Sacramento State (0-1) at Colorado (0-1) Sept. 8, 3:00

Here’s The Deal: Just one week into the new season, and Colorado and head coach Jon Embree already have their backs firmly against the wall. The Buffaloes inexplicably dropped their opener to rival Colorado State, a team coming off a roster-depleting offseason. If the Buffs are unable to do a sudden about-face in Boulder, the 2012 season might already be a lost cause. For Sacramento State, this trip to Folsom Field will be their second straight date with an FCS opponent. In the opener, the Hornets were drubbed by a bad New Mexico State team in Las Cruces, 49-19.

Why Sacramento State Might Win: The holdovers from the 2011 squad remember shocking Oregon State, so beating a Pac-12 team is not as far-fetched as it may sound. The Hornets feature a lot of new starters this fall, but are excited about the future of QB Garrett Safron. The sophomore was one of the bright spots of last Friday’s loss, throwing for 308 yards and two scores.

Why Colorado Might Win: The Hornets D got trashed by the Aggies pitch-and-catch combo of Andrew Manley to Austin Franklin. The Buffaloes are aiming to replicate those results with help from mobile QB Jordan Webb and top receiver Nelson Spruce. Colorado will also run it with slippery Tony Jones, who’ll be operating behind a very physical offensive line.

What To Watch Out For: For the Buffaloes, this game will be won at the point of attack, where they’ll hold a significant edge. Dour as the opener may have been, Colorado can take solace in the left side of OT David Bakhtiari and OG Alex Lewis. On defense, explosive end Chidera Uzo-Diribe has already notched the first two sacks of his season.

What Will Happen: The Buffs will revel in an opportunity to get somewhat on track at the expense of an inferior opponent. Having already lost to Colorado State, Colorado will take nothing for granted Saturday afternoon. Webb and Jones will both have big days, fueling the first win of the year.
