Week 4 CFN Fearless Prediction – All the MAC previews and picks

Week 4 Fearless Predictions
- Kent State at Buffalo
- Massachusetts at Miami University
- Bowling Green at Virginia Tech
- Central Michigan at Iowa
- Norfolk State at Ohio
- Connecticut at Western Michigan
- Eastern Michigan at Michigan State
- Kansas at Northern Illinois
- South Florida at Ball State
- Coastal Carolina at Toledo
- Akron at Tennessee

Massachusetts (0-3) at Miami University (1-2) Sept. 22, 11:00, ESPN3

Here's The Deal: Life in the MAC kicks off for both teams, and not a moment too soon. Miami University is coming off a basting from Boise State and is looking for its first win of the season against an FBS team, while UMass is looking for a sign of life after an awful start. Neither team is generating any offense so far, but the RedHawks have the passing game to get off to an important start with three straight road games ahead.

What Will Happen: The Minutemen have managed just 19 points in the first three games, and while the running game should start to work against a miserable RedHawk defensive front, the short-to-midrange passing game from Zac Dysert and MU should be able to control the game throughout.

CFN Prediction: Miami University 38 … Massachusetts 14

Norfolk State (2-1) at Ohio (3-0) Sept. 22, 2:00, ESPN3

Here's The Deal: Ohio keeps on chugging along, still getting the street cred from beating Penn State in the season opener to go along with a blowout of NMSU and a tough fight to get by Marshall last week. There isn't a tough game on the schedule until, maybe, Ball State in mid-November, but Norfolk State should provide a bit of a battle with a good offense and ultra-aggressive pass rush. The Spartans have cranked out 12 sacks and 30 tackles for loss in the first three games.

What Will Happen: Ohio will deal with a decent enough defense to provide a bit of a fight. Norfolk State will get to Tyler Tettleton on a regular basis, but it won't be nearly enough to slow down a balanced attack that will keep the chains moving and keep Spartan quarterback Nico Flores off the field.

CFN Prediction: Ohio 42 … Norfolk State 10

Coastal Carolina (2-1) at Toledo (2-1) Sept. 22, 7:00, ESPN3

Here's The Deal: Toledo's offense hasn't worked as expected. It hasn't been bad, but considering it's supposed to be a powerhouse, and it didn't do much against Wyoming and Bowling Green, Coastal Carolina should be a chance to get things going. However, the Rockets are an overtime loss to Arizona away from being 3-0 – they haven't been that bad – and they've been able to overcome defensive problems. The Chanticleers should be a factor in the Big South race despite losing at home to Eastern Kentucky. The passing game is efficient and effective; it should be able to keep pace.

What Will Happen: Expect a bit of a wild passing day with both teams combining for over 600 yards through the air. The two will trade haymakers, but CCU's defense will have the bigger problem with Toledo getting deep play after deep play.

CFN Prediction: Toledo 38 … Coastal Carolina 23
