Week 7 Fearless Predictions - Navy at Central Michigan

Navy (2-3) at Central Michigan (2-3) Oct. 12, 8:00, ESPN2

Here’s The Deal: Can this be as good as the 2010 thriller? Navy won 38-37, and won in the only other meeting rolling up a 63-34 victory in 2003, and it has to come up with a win this week to make sure that everything is on track for a bowl appearance. After stunning Air Force on the road in overtime, the Midshipmen might have kickstarted a season that was going nowhere fast, and with a breezy back half of the slate, there’s time to come up with a good season record-wise, but the Chippewas aren’t going to be easy to get past at home.

CMU has been miserable against the run all season long ranking 114th in the nation allowing 233 yards per game, and the defensive front hasn’t done enough to get behind the line and could struggle against a Navy offense that kills teams when it gets time to operate. However, the Chippewas were strong enough to beat Iowa and have had a few nice moments, but the defense has had a huge problem over the last few weeks allowing 177 points in the four games against FBS teams.

What Will Happen: Expect a fun shootout with neither defense able to stop the other’s offense. CMU will rip up Navy with the short-to-midrange passing game, and Navy will rumble at will with its ground attack. Whichever team wins the turnover battle will win the game.

CFN Prediction: Navy 34 … Central Michigan 30
