The Week 8 Mountain West Fearless Predictions, Previews & Game Analysis

UNLV (1-6) at Boise State (5-1) Oct. 20, 3:30, NBC Sports Network

What Will Happen: Boise State passed its big test holding down Fresno State, and now the sailing should be smooth until the regular-season ender against Nevada. At least that's the plan, but first the Broncos have to avoid the upset bid against a UNLV team with an improving offense and just enough athleticism to make this interesting. The Boise State offense might not be moving too well, but there aren't any mistakes and the O line is playing well. The Rebels have lost three straight, but they gave Nevada fits last week and moved the ball well against Louisiana Tech. however the run defense is too soft to come up with the upset.

CFN Prediction: Boise State 38 … UNLV 14

New Mexico (4-3) at Air Force (3-3) Oct. 20, 7:00

What Will Happen: Is this a changing of the guard? Can New Mexico rise up and be the team that Air Force has been over the last few years – being just good enough to be just on the outside of the elite? The Air Force running game is rumbling as well as ever, but the defense has been a disaster and the pass rush non-existent. Fortunately for the Falcons, New Mexico doesn't throw the ball. However, the Lobo running game has been fantastic and the offensive line is paving the way to a shockingly strong year. New Mexico and head coach Bob Davie make a great statement with a tough road win in a game that will feature less than 150 combined passing yards. It'll be a very fun, very fast game.

CFN Prediction: New Mexico 35 … Air Force 31

Wyoming (1-5) at Fresno State (4-3) Oct. 20, 10:30

What Will Happen: Fresno State will try to pick itself up off the mat after a disappointing 20-10 loss to Boise State. Will that be the type of game that puts the program into the tank? Wyoming knows a little something about heartbreakers with four losses by a combined 13 points including last week's 28-27 loss to Air Force. This one won't be as close. The Cowboys will get the offense moving a bit, but the Bulldogs will fire at will with the passing game rolling up 300 yards and Robbie Rouse rumbling for well over 100 yards in the easy win.

CFN Prediction: Fresno State 38 … Wyoming 20

San Diego State (4-3) at Nevada (6-1) Oct. 20, 10:35, CBS Sports Network

What Will Happen: Boise State might seem like the class of the Mountain West, but Nevada is 3-0 in conference play and San Diego State is still alive with the lone loss coming to Fresno State. The Aztecs lead the league in run defense with an aggressive defensive front that's great at getting into the backfield on a regular basis, and that's exactly what's needed to bother a Nevada running game that's been good, but needs to be great. The Wolf Pack might be averaging 285 yards per game, but it struggled to get past UNLV and needed overtime to get by Wyoming. Will the defense start to make more big plays and can the offense come through with a consistent performance? Quarterback Cody Fajardo is still hurting, but Devin Combs knows what he's doing and the Pack should keep on going … but it'll be a fight.

CFN Prediction: Nevada 34 … San Diego State 31
