Week 9 Mountain West Fearless Predictions, Game Previews & Analysis

Nevada (6-2) at Air Force (4-3) Oct 26, 8:00, CBS Sports Network

What Will Happen: If you line running games, this is for you with the two teams combining for well over 600 yards on the ground per game. Air Force has rebounded from a few rocky performances to win three of the last four to be 3-1 in conference play, and with no Boise State on the schedule there’s a shot to make this a big year by keeping the nation’s No. 2 ground attack rolling. However, the defense doesn’t get into the backfield and it’s not able to stop the Nevada offense before it can get started. The Wolf Pack is coming off a tough overtime loss to San Diego State, but the offense will march up and down the field pulling off a tough, fun win.

CFN Prediction: Nevada 42 … Air Force 38

Must Watch Rating (5 – The Girl, 1 – Don’t Trust The B In Apt. 23): 3

Fresno State (5-3) at New Mexico (4-4) Oct 27, 3:30

What Will Happen: The Lobo ground game continues to be special with Kasey Carrier running wild, but can the passing game do anything to loosen up the Fresno State defense? The Bulldogs can bomb away, with the best passing game in the Mountain West, but the defense is carrying the way through a nice run of three wins in four weeks. The Bulldog defensive front will hold up well enough to get by.

Boise State (6-1) at Wyoming (1-6) Oct 27, 3:30, CBS Sports Network

What Will Happen: The Broncos might not be anything flashy or pretty, but they’re rolling along with six straight wins with a 3-0 Mountain West run – and with ease. The defense has been terrific and the offensive line has been rock solid in pass protection. Wyoming can’t seem to get by in any close games on a rough three game losing streak and with the lone win this year coming in overtime against a miserable Idaho. The Cowboy run defense will get ripped apart in an easy Boise State win.

Hawaii (1-5) at Colorado State (1-6) Oct 27, 7:00

What Will Happen: Can this finally be the week that Colorado State can break through? On a six game losing streak since beating Colorado in the opener, the Rams haven’t come up with any offense and with a defense that’s sputtering against the run. Hawaii isn’t getting any offense whatsoever ranking third-to-last in the nation in yards, but the passing game will click a little better this week against a team its own size. It will be a close, good game between two inept teams.

CFN Prediction: Colorado State 38 … Hawaii 34

Must Watch Rating (5 – The Girl, 1 – Don’t Trust The B In Apt. 23): 1.5

UNLV (1-7) at San Diego State (5-3) Oct 27, 8:00

What Will Happen: All of a sudden, San Diego State is in the picture after a stunning overtime win over Nevada. The Aztecs aren’t getting much from the secondary, and the offensive line is struggling, but the ground game has been solid and the team seems to find ways to put points up on the board. UNLV has a quirky enough passing game that it could have a decent day against the Aztec secondary, but the defense won’t be able to hold up against the ground game.

CFN Prediction: San Diego State 45 … UNLV 14
