Week 9 MAC Fearless Predictions, Game Previews & Analysis

Ball State (5-3) at Army (1-6) Oct 27, 12:00, CBS Sports Network

What Will Happen: Ball State doesn’t get into the backfield and it’s merely average against the run, but it has the offense and the passing game to strike quickly if and when Army goes on any scoring marches. But can the defense do enough to get to the Black Knight running game before it can get started? The Cardinal D might be lousy, but Army’s is worse, especially against decent passing games.

CFN Prediction: Ball State 38 … Army 30

Must Watch Rating (5 – The Girl, 1 – Don’t Trust The B In Apt. 23): 2

Northern Illinois (7-1) at Western Michigan (3-5) Oct 27, 12:00, ESPN3

What Will Happen: This could be the most dangerous game yet for the steamrolling Huskies. The defending MAC champion has won seven in a row with no one coming within double digits in conference play. The offense might be rocking, but it’s the defense that’s getting the job done lately raking first in the MAC in pass efficiency defense and allowing just ten points over the last two games. The D shuts down the Alex Carder-less Bronco offense that can still throw with Tyler Van Tubbergen, but won’t be as effective. The big problem for WMU? Turnovers. The Broncos gave up six last week against Kent State and will have more of an issue this week.

CFN Prediction: Northern Illinois 38 … Western Michigan 24

Must Watch Rating (5 – The Girl, 1 – Don’t Trust The B In Apt. 23): 3

Eastern Michigan (1-6) at Bowling Green (5-3) Oct 27, 3:30, ESPN3

What Will Happen: Break up the Eagles. After a miserable start, Eastern Michigan came up with its best performance of the year in a 48-38 win over Army to stop the ugly slide. However, the defense still hasn’t stopped anyone with no pass rush to help the cause for the nation’s worst run defense. Bowling Green doesn’t exactly pound away, but Anthon Samuel and the ground attack should be just fine ripping up the Eagles for well over 200 yards to balance out an attack that will get up early before turning it over to the MAC’s No. 1 defense.

CFN Prediction: Bowling Green 38 … Eastern Michigan 10

Must Watch Rating (5 – The Girl, 1 – Don’t Trust The B In Apt. 23): 1

Ohio (7-0) at Miami University (3-4) Oct 27, 3:30, ESPN3

What Will Happen: Ohio might still be unbeaten, but it’s battered and bruised as it has struggled to get by the weak and the sad of the MAC. It took everything in the bag to get by UMass, Buffalo and Akron, but the defense has been playing fine and the turnover margin has been stellar, ranking second in the nation. Miami doesn’t have a running game and needs the passing attack to shine, but the pounding of the Bobcat attack will be enough to sneak by once again.

CFN Prediction: Ohio 34 … Miami University 28
ATS Consultants Line (Click for more lines and picks) Ohio -7 O/U: 60
Must Watch Rating (5 – The Girl, 1 – Don’t Trust The B In Apt. 23): 2

Toledo (7-1) at Buffalo (1-6) Oct 27, 3:30

What Will Happen: The Rockets keep on rolling. On a seven game winning streak and 4-0 in MAC play, they have to keep from looking ahead to key showdowns against Ball State and Northern Illinois over the next two weeks. The pass defense might stink, but the offense is rolling at will and the confidence is high after ruining Cincinnati’s unbeaten season. Buffalo is making too many mistakes and can’t score, with just nine points in the last two games.

CFN Prediction: Toledo 34 … Buffalo 17
ATS Consultants Line (Click for more lines and picks) Toledo -7.5 O/U: 63
Must Watch Rating (5 – The Girl, 1 – Don’t Trust The B In Apt. 23): 1.5

Akron (1-7) at Central Michigan (2-5) Oct 27, 3:30

What Will Happen: The buzz is gone from a fun Akron start, mostly because the wins and the production hasn’t been there. Central Michigan hasn’t exactly had a ton of luck, either, losing four straight ever since the shocking win over Iowa. The Chippewas can’t stop the run, but the biggest problem is a lack of a pass rush that should end up getting its secondary torched. The Zip passing game will rise up and overcome a bad day from a defense that isn’t slowing anyone down.

CFN Prediction: Akron 45 … Central Michigan 42
ATS Consultants Line (Click for more lines and picks) Central Michigan -6.5 O/U: 66.5
Must Watch Rating (5 – The Girl, 1 – Don’t Trust The B In Apt. 23): 1.5
