The Week 13 MAC Fearless Predictions & Game Previews

Akron (1-10) at Toledo (8-3) Nov. 20, 7:00, ESPN23

Here’s The Deal: Toledo is fighting to make sure it gets a decent bowl spot. It might have missed out playing for the MAC title after losing the last two games to Ball State and Northern Illinois, but there’s still a good chance to close out with a strong ten-win season with the layup against Akron and a bowl date coming. The Zips showed promise early on under Terry Bowden, at least offensively, but the only win came against Morgan State and a home loss to lowly UMass put a major damper on the finishing kick. On an eight-game losing streak, an upset over the Rockets would ease the pain.

What Will Happen: Toledo’s miserable pass defense will have problems with the Akron attack. There should be plenty of fireworks and lots of big plays, but the Rocket running game will take control to overcome a huge passing night from the Zips’ Dalton Williams.

CFN Prediction: Toledo 38 … Akron 14

Must Watch Rating (5 – Beware of Mr. Baker, 1 – Life of Pi): 1.5

Ohio (8-3) at Kent State (10-1) Nov. 23, 11:00, ESPNU

What Will Happen: How did Kent State get blown out by Kentucky? The Golden Flashes have been on a nine-game winning streak since losing 47-14, and now it’s tune-up time before facing Northern Illinois for the MAC title. Star RB Dri Archer will have a tough time against a decent Bobcat defense and a team desperate for a ninth win to ensure a solid bowl bid, but the Golden Flashes are playing better and is making even few mistakes than Ohio.

CFN Prediction: Kent State 31 … Ohio 24
ATS Consultants Line (Click for more lines and picks) Kent State -10.5 O/U: 60
Must Watch Rating (5 – Beware of Mr. Baker, 1 – Life of Pi): 3

Ball State (8-3) at Miami University (4-7) Nov. 23, 1:00

What Will Happen: How much will the loss of Ball State starting quarterback Keith Wenning to an ankle injury hurt? Miami doesn’t have the pass rush to take advantage of the problem, and it’s offense is hurting, too. The RedHawks have lost three straight games and five of the last six, and even without the starting quarterback, the Cardinals will move the ball without a problem. The Cardinals will blast away with the ground game.

CFN Prediction: Ball State 30 … Miami University 23
ATS Consultants Line (Click for more lines and picks) Ball State -9 O/U: 45
Must Watch Rating (5 – Beware of Mr. Baker, 1 – Life of Pi): 2

Northern Illinois (10-1) at Eastern Michigan (2-9) Nov. 23, 1:00, ESPN3

What Will Happen: The Huskies are already set with their spot in the MAC championship to try to repeat, but they’re not going to take their foot totally off the gas. However, NIU didn’t exactly bring the A game last year when it didn’t need the Eastern Michigan game, and struggled in a 18-12 win. However, this is a different Eagle team that ranks dead last in college football against the run. Uh oh.

CFN Prediction: Northern Illinois 23 … Eastern Michigan 17
ATS Consultants Line (Click for more lines and picks) Northern Illinois -20 O/U: 61.5
Must Watch Rating (5 – Beware of Mr. Baker, 1 – Life of Pi): 2

Buffalo (4-7) at Bowling Green (7-4) Nov. 23, 2:00, ESPN3

What Will Happen: There are plenty of bowl openings and Bowling Green should find its way in somewhere, but being 8-4 would look a whole bunch better than 7-5. Buffalo is on fire, winning three straight despite a lack of scoring punch and with no downfield passing game whatsoever. However, the fun ends against a Falcon team that’s been terrific against the pass and is No. 1 in the MAC in most of the major category. The game is being played in Columbus.

CFN Prediction: Bowling Green 23 … Buffalo 10
ATS Consultants Line (Click for more lines and picks) Bowling Green -9.5 O/U: 44
Must Watch Rating (5 – Beware of Mr. Baker, 1 – Life of Pi): 2

Central Michigan (5-6) at Massachusetts (1-10) Nov. 23, 3:00

What Will Happen: Very quietly, Central Michigan has turned things around winning three games in the last four weeks. The offense has picked things up a bit, but he defense has been the main difference, coming through with big efforts against the weak and the sad. The D might be the worst in college football at making plays behind the line, but UMass doesn’t have the O to take advantage. The Chippewas need this to become bowl eligible.

CFN Prediction: Central Michigan 34 … Massachusetts 20
