- It’s so nice to have a national title that matters again. No one cared about Alabama and LSU, and there wasn’t as much interest in Oregon-Auburn as there should’ve been.

- It helps that the first round of the NFL playoffs was a colossal suckfest.

- Fine, I’ll be the one to say it. Ray Lewis might be the greatest linebacker of all-time, but all the motivational rah-rah stuff is ridiculous and that dance is silly. He’s going to offer nothing, absolutely nothing, as a talking head.

- Realizing this is a stretch, remember how the Romney camp and right side pundits were so confident that they were going to win the 2012 election? They talked themselves into actually believing they had it, mostly because they only listened to what they wanted to hear, all the while ignoring the raw data, polling and various other signs that they were about to get creamed. Meanwhile, the Obama side said all the right things, pretended to be worried and kept the smugness to itself, all but knowing it was going to win all along. That’s the sense I’m getting about your 2013 BCS championship.

- Notre Dame types keep saying the team has the right attitude and that destiny is on their side. Destiny has a strange way of taking a left turn after it gets slugged in the mouth by an NFL-caliber offensive line.

- Alabama is pretending that the intensity hasn’t been there and that there’s a lot to worry about, but I’m hearing that everything is just right. There’s no sense of entitlement and the egos have been kept in check.

- EVERY journalist is loving every singly solitary second of the Miami experience. The Holy Grail of assignments, though, is to somehow get the call for Rio for the 2016 Olympics or the 2014 World Cup.

- If the Tide really does win this thing, credit Nick Saban for being able to keep everyone on an even keel from Day One.

- Regis Philbin isn’t funny.

- Remember, this is supposed to be a rebuilding year for Alabama.

- Don’t get me wrong. I picked Alabama to win and win big, but I really, really, really, really, REALLY just want a fun and entertaining game.

- Seriously, I’d be more than happy to spend all day tomorrow fielding a slew of “I told you so” e-mails and tweets. I’ve been on the Notre Dame bandwagon all year, and I wouldn’t be the slightest bit shocked if there’s a major upset. It would be a good thing for college football if the Irish win this.

- And it wouldn’t be that bad if Alabama wins in a walk. Three undisputed, unquestioned national titles in four years would count among the greatest runs of all-time. Remember, the 1997 Nebraska team split the championship with Michigan.

- It’s absolutely inexcusable that I haven’t seen Django Unchained.

- What does Notre Dame do better than Alabama? Where’s the advantage? In what aspect of this game can you say, “Notre Dame should be able to beat Alabama by doing (blank).”

- I get yelled at by readers for this – Urban Meyer is a terrific analyst.

- Interesting. For this game it's Samantha Steele. It was supposed to be Ponder all week, but at the last possible second, after testing the name out in warmups, it was a gametime decision to go the other way.

- Alabama 27 … Notre Dame 10

- And then Nick Saban takes over the Cleveland Browns.

- Happy National Championship. I’d like to wish you both good luck, we’re all counting on you.
