Archie Manning or Jack Harbaugh? What’s a more impressive feat, siring two Super Bowl MVP quarterbacks or being the father of competing Super Bowl coaches?

I’ll admit that I never thought Colin Kaepernick would be this good, this fast in the pros; system quarterback, facing WAC competition at Nevada and all. Guilty as charged, because the second-year dual-threat is only going to get better with more reps.

Isn’t it incredible how the Miami Hurricanes always seem to have a major impact on the Super Bowl … yet haven’t made much noise as a program for years at the college level?

Baltimore’s Joe Flacco resides just on the outside cusp of the game’s elite quarterbacks. With a win on Sunday night, he’ll break through and get closer to earning a seat at an adult table that already includes Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Eli Manning, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and Matt Ryan.

San Francisco has the better talent. Baltimore has that team of destiny feel. The latter phenomenon can be tough to overcome, even when there’s a slight gap in personnel.

Kaepernick is young and inexperienced, especially when compared to Flacco. But sometimes in a game of this magnitude, a quarterback is so green and oblivious to the surroundings that he doesn’t get overwhelmed by the situation.

Randy Moss is still playing? Seriously? Geez, I need to poke my head out of the college football rabbit hole a little more regularly during the year.

The Super Bowl has a penchant for giving birth to an unlikely hero who was otherwise quiet for much of the season. I’m thinking this might be a good setting—and surface—for the 49ers’ LaMichael James to make something happen on special teams.

Someone other than LB Aldon Smith is going to need to get pressure on Flacco for San Francisco. The line is usually no help with regard to the pass rush, so the 49ers linebackers will be carrying the load … as usual.

Who does a better job of getting in the face of the quarterback, Smith or Ravens’ star LB Terrell Suggs? The verdict will go a long way toward determining the winner.

Baltimore RB Ray Rice vs. a San Francisco run defense that ranks among the stingiest in the league will be a pivotal game-within-the-game. The Ravens O-line has been solid this postseason, especially against Denver, but the Niners present an entirely different challenge.

Jim Harbaugh is coaching in the Super Bowl. David Shaw has already won the Rose Bowl. It’s been a good year to be a coach with ties to Stanford.

The final game of a brilliant 17-year career for Ravens LB Ray Lewis. Has this mega-event ever witnessed an imminent retirement with more meaning and hype? I'm sort of rooting for Baltimore just to see if the first-ballot hall of famer can top his post-game sermons from the first three playoff games.

How long has Lewis been playing the game? In his last season at Miami, the ‘Canes were a member of the Big East, the Big 8 and Southwest Conference was still in business, the BCS had yet to be born and Jerry Sandusky was the defensive coordinator at Penn State.

There’s a title on the line in the Superdome. Take the team with more players from the SEC. Advantage, well, no one. Both teams have 11 players who played for schools that participated in the SEC a year ago.
