Arizona
Start: March 7 Spring Game: April 13

Why To Be Grouchy … even with the return of 11 starters, the defense is capable of once again capping Arizona’s mobility. The ‘Cats were atrocious last season, yielding almost 500 yards a game. While progress is almost inevitable, considering all of the familiar faces in the huddle and on the sidelines, the D still has a very long way to go before being considered an asset.

Arizona State
Start: March 19 Spring Game: April 13

Why To Be Grouchy … the offense is in desperate need of playmakers on the outside. The Sun Devils had problems stretching defenses a year ago, which is going to be repeated in 2013 if a couple of holdovers or newcomers can’t threaten with their speed. While Kelly is a quality passer, with an accurate arm, the staff wants him to employ more than just the backs and tight ends this season.

UCLA
Start: April 2 Spring Game: April 27

Why To Be Grouchy … as revelatory as UCLA was in 2012, it’ll still begin the new year on a three-game losing streak. The Bruins slumped to the finish line, exposing their youth and flaws on defense and along the offensive line. Despite receiving constant support from the pass rush, the secondary still allowed too many long balls over the top. And now that unit must replace three starters, leaving FS Tevin McDonald to bloom into a physical and emotional leader.

USC
Start: March 2 Spring Game: April 13

Why To Be Grouchy … the program is in a very fragile state as the 2013 season lurks out on the horizon. Lane Kiffin is firmly on the hot seat, the latest recruiting class missed the mark and last year’s 7-6 debacle is fresh on everyone’s mind. Plus, after failing to capitalize on Matt Barkley’s final season as an amateur, the Trojans are now forced to begin a pivotal time with a first-time full-timer calling signals. There’ll be immense pressure on this squad to rebound, while tuning out a cacophony of offseason noise.

Utah
Start: March 19 Spring Game: April 20

Why To Be Grouchy … the Utes, coming off their first idle postseason in a decade, are now rebuilding in the trenches. Three starters have graduated from both the O-line and the D-line, leaving behind a shaky foundation on which to build. Jeremiah Poutasi is the new anchor on offense in just his second season removed from high school. The departures of All-American DT Star Lotulelei and the Kruger boys, Joe and Dave, will make Utah especially vulnerable to the run.
