Way--WAY-Too-Early Bowl Expectations
- Part One - The December bowls
- Part Two - The rest of the non-BCS games
- Part Three - The BCS bowls

Bridgepoint Education Holiday
San Diego, CA Qualcomm Stadium
Pac-12 No. 3 vs. Big 12 No. 5
Ridiculously Early Call: Arizona State vs. Kansas State
Top Three Other Options: 1) UCLA, 2) TCU, 3) USC

WHY? Arizona State, Arizona, USC or UCLA are all going to be in the running because of geography, but don't be shocked if Washington turns out to technically be the right team in the pecking order. Kansas State, TCU and Oklahoma State would all be close to the nice trip to San Diego.

Russell Athletic
Orlando, FL Florida Citrus Bowl
Big East No. 2 vs. ACC No. 3
Ridiculously Early Call: Rutgers vs. Miami
Top Three Other Options: 1) Louisville, 2) South Florida, 3) UCF

WHY? Louisville, Rutgers and Cincinnati are the three favorites to win the Big East, but South Florida or UCF would be a better fit for the local bowl. Assuming Florida State and Clemson will get the ACC's top bowl spots, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Miami will likely be in line for the spot.

Valero Alamo
San Antonio, TX Alamodome
Pac-12 No. 2 vs. Big 12 No. 3
Ridiculously Early Call: UCLA vs. Oklahoma State
Top Three Other Options: 1) USC, 2) Oklahoma, 3) Texas

WHY? Assuming the Big 12 doesn't get two teams into the BCS, the champion will go to the Fiesta, the No. 2 team will go to the Cotton and the third team will be here. The loser of UCLA-USC will be the favorite to go to San Antonio while the winner might get into the BCS.

Bell Helicopter Armed Forces
Dallas, TX Gerald J. Ford Stadium
Navy vs. MWC
Ridiculously Early Call: Navy vs. Utah State
Top Three Other Options: 1) Air Force, 2) Nevada, 3) San Jose State

WHY? Navy will be bowl eligible again an on the way to Dallas, but the Mountain West could have a tough time finding enough teams to get in. San Jose State might make more sense, but it plays Navy on November 23rd.

New Era Pinstripe
Bronx, NY Yankee Stadium
Big 12 No. 7 vs. Big East No. 4
Ridiculously Early Call: West Virginia vs. Notre Dame*
Top Three Other Options: 1) Baylor, 2) Cincinnati, 3) TCU

WHY? There might be some backroom dealings to get Rutgers, but it'll likely be off to a bigger bowl. West Virginia might not have played well in last year's Pinstripe, but around 400 miles away, it's still a drivable game for the rabid and always-loyal fan base. Notre Dame might not be tied into the Big East in any way, but without enough bowl eligible teams to fill the slots, the conference will leave a few openings. Others will battle for the Irish, but this is the an easy fit in a decent bowl against a brand name team.

Franklin American Mortgage Music City
Nashville, TN LP Field
SEC No. 7 vs. ACC No. 6
Ridiculously Early Call: Vanderbilt vs. NC State
Top Three Other Options: 1) Tennessee, 2) Wake Forest, 3) Georgia Tech

WHY? Tennessee should get back to bowl eligibility - but barely. Figure the Vols or Vanderbilt to be a natural fit for the local bowl. Take your pick from several mid-range ACC teams, but NC State makes the most sense in a bounceback season.

Buffalo Wild Wings
Tempe, AZ Sun Devil Stadium
Big 12 No. 4 vs. Big Ten No. 4 or 5
Ridiculously Early Call: TCU vs. Northwestern
Top Three Other Options: 1) Oklahoma State, 2) Wisconsin, 3) Nebraska

WHY? It's going to take some work, but watch out for Notre Dame to be in the mix, too. The Big Ten will have a tough time filling all of its bowl slots with Penn State not eligible and other teams like Illinois, Indiana and Purdue likely to just miss out on bowl eligibility. Northwestern will probably be the right fit, and the other good teams like Wisconsin, Nebraska and Michigan State will quickly be snapped up. Everyone will move heaven and earth to get the Irish, and facing TCU or Oklahoma State wouldn't be bad.

Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas
Houston, TX Reliant Stadium
Big 12 No. 6 vs. Big Ten No. 6
Ridiculously Early Call: Baylor vs. Iowa
Top Three Other Options: 1) TCU, 2) Minnesota, 3) West Virginia

WHY? Baylor, TCU, Texas Tech, or in a dream world, Texas; the bowl will be happy to get any of the Big 12's Texas teams. Northwestern and Minnesota will likely be the main bowl eligible teams in the mix from a strong Big Ten that'll quickly fill all the top spots, but Iowa might be in for a bit of a turnaround year and get back to a bowl game.

Hyundai Sun
El Paso, TX Sun Bowl
ACC No. 4 vs. Pac-12 No. 4
Ridiculously Early Call: North Carolina vs. Washington
Top Three Other Options: 1) Miami, 2) Arizona State, 3) Virginia Tech

WHY? The ACC isn't likely to get two teams into the BCS, and the pecking order will follow. Arizona State and Arizona aren't exactly close to El Paso, but it's a manageable trip for either fan base. However, Washington will probably be the team in line for the bid. After last year's clunker, you can all but rule out USC.

Kraft Fight Hunger
San Francisco, CA AT&T Park
BYU vs. Pac-12 No. 6
Ridiculously Early Call: BYU vs. Stanford
Top Three Other Options: 1) Oregon State, 2) Washington, 3) Arizona

WHY? BYU isn't likely going to be in the BCS, so its bowl fate will likely be sealed early on. Stanford probably won't be the sixth best team in the Pac-12, but it would fit nicely into the local bowl. However, outside of Oregon, the conference race should be wide open with several teams in the mix for San Francisco.

AutoZone Liberty
Memphis, TN Liberty Bowl
C-USA No. 1 vs. SEC No. 8 or 9
Ridiculously Early Call: East Carolina vs. Tennessee
Top Three Other Options: 1) Tulsa, 2) Vanderbilt, 3) Marshall

WHY? East Carolina, Tulsa and Marshall will be the three most likely favorites to win the changed-up Conference USA, while Tennessee or Vanderbilt will probably be here. The other will play in the Music City.

Chick-fil-A
Atlanta, GA Georgia Dome
ACC No. 2 vs. SEC No. 5
Ridiculously Early Call: Missouri vs. Clemson
Top Three Other Options: 1) Florida State, 2) Florida, 3) Georgia

WHY? Missouri might not be a world-beater, but with a relatively easy non-conference slate and with enough winnable SEC games to get by, it should have a stronger record than Ole Miss or Mississippi State. The Chick-fil-A might be hoping for a bigger SEC team, but assume Texas A&M will be wanted by the Cotton and Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, LSU and Alabama all sliding into other slots. The Florida State and Clemson should be the ACC's two best teams with the loser of the Atlantic going to Atlanta.

Heart of Dallas

Dallas, TX Cotton Bowl
C-USA vs. Big Ten No. 7
Ridiculously Early Call: Tulsa vs. Minnesota
Top Three Other Options: 1) Rice, 2) Northwestern, 3) Marshall

WHY? The Big Ten might have a hard time filling out all of its bowl spots, especially if it gets two teams into the BCS as expected. Minnesota should be the last of the options, but with a lot of luck, Purdue or Indiana could be in the mix. Rice or Tulsa will be an easy choice, even if there aren't huge fan bases to help pack the house.

Capital One
Orlando, FL Florida Citrus Bowl
SEC No. 2 vs. Big Ten No. 2
Ridiculously Early Call: Wisconsin vs. Florida
Top Three Other Options: 1) Nebraska, 2) Georgia, 3) South Carolina

WHY? The No. 2 team out of the SEC East will probably get the nod unless both Alabama and LSU get into the BCS, then the No. 1 East team will be here and No. 2 will go to the Outback. Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State and Nebraska are the four likely teams for the three New Year's Day morning Florida bowls.

Outback
Tampa, FL Raymond James Stadium
Big Ten No. 3 vs. SEC No. 3
Ridiculously Early Call: LSU vs. Nebraska
Top Three Other Options: 1) Georgia, 2) Wisconsin, 3) Michigan

WHY? Put the LSU-Alabama loser here vs. the No. 2 team from the Big Ten Legends. Flip a coin between Wisconsin and Nebraska if either one doesn't make it into the BCS.

TaxSlayer.com Gator
Jacksonville, FL EverBank Field
Big Ten No. 4 or 5 vs. SEC No. 6
Ridiculously Early Call: Michigan State vs. South Carolina
Top Three Other Options: 1) Michigan, 2) Wisconsin, 3) Texas A&M

WHY? The Gator would love to get Florida, but the SEC has too many prime bowl spots. Instead, the No. 3 team in the East will likely land here and it'll probably be a very good, but not elite South Carolina that gets the nod. The Big Ten top tier will be a mess to figure out come bowl time, and while Michigan State might have the best defense and a great shot at a BCS bid, it's going to be hard to match the records of some of the league's other stars.

AT&T Cotton
Arlington, TX Cowboys Stadium
Big 12 No. 2 vs. SEC No. 3 or 4
Ridiculously Early Call: Oklahoma vs. Texas A&M
Top Three Other Options: 1) Oklahoma State, 2) LSU, 3) Texas

WHY? Who's up for a rematch? Texas A&M might have a tougher time now that it's the hunted, but this would still be a nice landing spot. The Big 12 might be left out of a second BCS spot again if an out-of-left-field at-large finds its way in like Northern Illinois did last season, but this wouldn't be a bad bowl for Oklahoma State or even Texas if either one doesn't make it into one of the big money games.

BBVA Compass
Birmingham, AL Legion Field
SEC No. 8 or 9 vs. Big East No. 5
Ridiculously Early Call: Auburn vs. UCF
Top Three Other Options: 1) Connecticut, 2) Mississippi State, 3) South Florida

WHY? The Auburn-Arkansas winner will probably be bowl eligible, while the loser won't. The winner of the Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State could end up here, but getting Auburn would be the bowl's realistic dream get. The Big East will probably struggle to get enough bowl eligible teams, but South Florida or UCF will probably be here.

GoDaddy.com
Mobile, AL Ladd-Peebles Stadium
Sun Belt No. 2 vs. MAC No. 1
Ridiculously Early Call: Northern Illinois vs. WKU
Top Three Other Options: 1) Bowling Green, 2) ULM, 3) Troy

WHY? It might not be the Orange Bowl, but Northern Illinois vs. one of the stronger Sun Belt teams wouldn't be bad. Bobby Petrino's Western Kentucky squad should be terrific, but ULM, Arkansas State and Louisiana-Lafayette will all be close.
