2013 Preseason AAC Offensive Player of the Year

QB Teddy Bridgewater, Jr. Louisville

Plenty of quarterbacks enjoy their biggest growth spurt in Year 2 as a starter. Bridgewater was one of them in 2012. He blossomed into one of the game’s premier young passers, going 287-of-419 for 3,718 yards, 27 touchdowns and only eight picks to earn the Big East Offensive Player of the Year. Bridgewater has all of the tools of a future NFL starter, from his strong arm and sound decision-making to the way he plays during crunch time. He’ll spend this season elevating the program a notch higher, while improving his pro draft stock.

2013 Preseason AAC Defensive Player of the Year

LB Yawin Smallwood, Jr. Connecticut

Smallwood was outstanding for the Huskies last year, but his effort was somewhat overshadowed by the program’s seniors. However, now that DE Trevardo Williams, LB Sio Moore and CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson are in the NFL, Smallwood is ready to become a more recognizable name. He was everywhere for the Huskies in 2012, leading the team with 120 stops, including 15 tackles for loss, four sacks, four pass breakups and two sacks. Smallwood is capable of using 2013 as a springboard to his own NFL career.
