Bowl Projections December Bowls | BCS Bowls

Wed, Jan 1 12 pm ESPN2
TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl
EverBank Field, Jacksonville, FL
Big Ten No. 4 or 5 vs. SEC No. 6

CFN Preview 2013 Projected Matchup: Michigan vs. Mississippi State

Top Three Other Options: 1) Michigan State, 2) Nebraska, 3) Ole Miss

Why? The horror ... the horror. For those of you desperate to see a rematch of the 2011 nail-biter - a 52-14 Mississippi State win that ended the Rich Rodriguez era in Ann Arbor - your dreams have come true. The Wolverines might be sexier than this bowl, especially if they beat Ohio State, but too many Big Ten teams with soft schedules will take up other bowls. Considering how god the SEC will be, the Gator will get a terrific opponent for the Big Ten. The winner of the Egg Bowl between Mississippi State and Ole Miss will be here, while the loser might miss out on a bowl entirely.

Wed, Jan 1 12 pm ESPNU
Heart of Dallas Bowl
Cotton Bowl, Dallas, TX
Big Ten No. 7 vs. C-USA

CFN Preview 2013 Projected Matchup: Indiana vs. Rice

Top Three Other Options: 1) Minnesota, 2) Louisiana Tech, 3) UTEP

Why? It might be next to impossible for the Big Ten to fill all of its bowl slots, but Indiana would jump all over the invite if it can get to six wins. This would be the program's first bowl appearance wince the 2007 Insight Bowl loss to Oklahoma State, and it would be just the second since 1993. Rice isn't exactly local, but the Texas tie-in makes sense.

Wed, Jan 1 1 pm ABC
Capital One Bowl
Florida Citrus Bowl, Orlando, FL
Big Ten No. 2 vs. SEC No. 2

CFN Preview 2013 Projected Matchup: Nebraska vs. Florida

Top Three Other Options: 1) Michigan State, 2) Wisconsin, 3) South Carolina

Why? The Capital One Bowl likes Nebraska and Nebraska loves the Capital One Bowl right back. Okay, so the bowl might not want the Huskers for a third straight season after two straight double-digit losses, but it'll be hard to go with anyone else considering the Big Red's big easy of a schedule. Florida, Georgia or South Carolina. Pick one out of a hat and you probably have the right SEC team.

Wed, Jan 1 1 pm ESPN
Outback Bowl
Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, FL
Big Ten No. 3 vs. SEC No. 3

CFN Preview 2013 Projected Matchup: Michigan State vs. LSU

Top Three Other Options: 1) Florida, 2) Nebraska, 3) Wisconsin

Why? Assuming two Big Ten teams make it into the BCS, Michigan State, if everything goes according to plan, should be just good enough to finish among the top four teams in the conference and could get back to Tampa for the second time in the last three seasons, beating Georgia in a 33-30 thriller at the end of the 2011 season. LSU makes sense if Alabama and Georgia go off and play in the BCS, but Florida, South Carolina, or just about any other SEC team you can name might make the trip.

Fri, Jan 3 7:30 pm FOX
AT&T Cotton Bowl
Cowboys Stadium, Arlington, TX
Big 12 No. 2 vs. SEC No. 3 or 4

CFN Preview 2013 Projected Matchup: Oklahoma vs. Texas A&M

Top Three Other Options: 1) Texas, 2) LSU, 3) Oklahoma State

Why? Because it was SO much fun the last time. Of course, a lot depends on whether or not Captain Autograph is slinging it around for the Aggies, but no matter how all the drama turns out, A&M should still be among the SEC's best. Oklahoma, Texas or Oklahoma State will almost certainly end up here, but don't count out Kansas State if two Big 12 teams make it into the BCS.

Sat, Jan 4 1 pm ESPN
BBVA Compass Bowl
Legion Field, Birmingham, Ala
SEC No. 8 or 9 vs. American No. 5

CFN Preview 2013 Projected Matchup: Auburn vs. UCF

Top Three Other Options: 1) Arkansas, 2) Ole Miss, 3) Vanderbilt

Why? It would be a dream to for the bowl to get Auburn - actually, the dream is Alabama, but that's not happening any time soon - but Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and a slew of other SEC teams will be in the hunt. If UCF doesn't stick around close to home in the St. Petersburg bowl, it'll likely make the trip to Birmingham. Connecticut and South Florida will also be on the table.

Sun, Jan 5 9 pm ESPN
GoDaddy Bowl
Ladd-Peebles Stadium, Mobile, AL
Sun Belt No. 2 vs. MAC No. 1

CFN Preview 2013 Projected Matchup: Bowling Green vs. Arkansas State

Top Three Other Options: 1) Northern Illinois, 2) ULM, 3) Toledo

Why? Louisiana-Lafayette and ULM might make a little more geographic sense for the Sun Belt, but ASU will be too good to not find a bowl spot. The MAC champion won't be going to the BCS this year. Flip a coin on Bowling Green, Northern Illinois and Toledo for the bid.
