Week 11 SEC Fearless Predictions & Preview - Appalachian State at Georgia

Appalachian State (2-7) at Georgia (5-3) Nov. 9 12:30, ESPN3

Why You Should Give A Hoot: Georgia gets a week off after a wild and tough game against Florida before diving back into SEC play at Auburn. Appalachian State isn’t the Appalachian State of a few years ago, struggling through a rough season with the only wins coming over Elon and Georgia Southern. The Mountaineers have suffered close loss after close loss with four defeats by a touchdown or less. But this is Georgia this week, not Georgia Southern, and it should be a long day.

Why Appalachian State Might Win: Welcome to the possible mental letdown. This has been a brutal, brutal physical season for Georgia, and coming off the fight against Florida, and with all the injuries and problems, the team is due to relax a wee bit with Auburn coming up and the SEC East title still potentially in play. Appalachian State has a nice passing attack that blew up against Georgia Southern and has rolled for 300 yards or more in five of the last eight games. Georgia is getting healthier, but it’s still hurting in the secondary and at safety. Kameron Bryant has thrown just three interceptions on the year, and he could keep bombing to keep ASU in the game.

Why Georgia Might Win: ASU doesn’t generate a pass rush. The defensive front can be shoved around a bit, but the biggest problem is the lack of pressure coming from the line with just six sacks on the season and just two in the last five games. If you can’t get to Aaron Murray there’s a big problem, and the Bulldog line has allowed only 11 sacks on the year. Expect a razor-sharp day from No. 11 and a great first half from …

Who To Watch Out For: Todd Gurley. Finally getting healthy again, he ripped off 100 yards on just 17 carries against Florida, and while he won’t be used much against the lightweight – he’s needed for bigger things next week – he should generate enough on a few early drives to put the game away early.

What Will Happen: Appalachian State has just enough of an offense to be pesky for a quarter, but when Georgia is ready to put the game away, it will.

Prediction: Georgia 48 … Appalachian State 13
