Week 14 Fearless Predictions & Previews - Sun Belt

Texas State (6-5) at Troy (5-6) Nov. 29 2:00, ESPN3

Why You Should Give A Hoot: Six wins doesn't guarantee a bowl game from the Sun Belt, especially with several teams likely to be eligible, but with a solid fan base, Texas State might be too attractive to ignore if it can get to seven wins. The Bobcats have to pull up out of a nosedive, losing their last two games getting thumped by Arkansas State and WKU. Now it's going require some work to keep up with the Troy passing game and high-powered attack.

The Trojans have been having a harder time over the last few weeks, losing three straight in a season of runs. Troy started out 2-0 lost three straight, won three straight, and now have to win to become bowl eligible. This is a fun and dangerous team that has the firepower to close out the home slate on a high note.

What Will Happen: The Texas State pass defense hasn't been strong enough, and it could be a long day against a Trojan passing game that leads the Sun Belt and is among the most efficient in the nation. The Trojans won't be able to keep up against a motivated team desperate to try keeping its season alive.

Prediction: Troy 38 … Texas State 27
Line: Troy -6.5 o/u: 59.5

South Alabama (4-6) at Georgia State (0-11) Nov. 30 2:00, ESPN3

Why You Should Give A Hoot: Georgia State keeps putting up a good fight, but it's not paying off. After losing in painful fashion to Arkansas State, the Panthers are still looking for their first win of the season in the final game of the year. There might be several positive signs from a winless year, but actually getting a victory would ease the offseason.

Can South Alabama make a run to get to a bowl game? It needs to get by the Panthers this week and take care of business at home against Sun Belt leader Louisiana-Lafayette to become eligible. It's been a solid year so far no matter what happens next week, but losing to Georgia State would be a disaster.

What Will Happen: Georgia State is starting to get more out of the offense, but not enough. South Alabama is fantastic at getting into the backfield and being disruptive, and it'll throw GSU off its game from the start.

Prediction: South Alabama 31 … Georgia State 23
Line: South Alabama -9.5 o/u: 60

Arkansas State (7-4) at WKU (7-4) Nov. 30 4:00, ESPN3

Why You Should Give A Hoot: All of a sudden, Bobby Petrino's WKU team has found its groove winning three straight after a rocky midseason stretch. Bowl eligible, now the Hilltoppers are fighting to possibly hold the No. 3 Sun Belt spot all to themselves, if they can win and get a ULM loss to ULL.

Arkansas State has even more at stake, needing to come up with a win while hoping for the Ragin' Cajuns to beat ULM, to earn at least a share of the Sun Belt title. If ULL gags to ULM and South Alabama over the last two weeks, the Red Wolves will hold the title outright. More likely, they're solidified into the No. 2 spot and should be able to own a bowl spot with a win.

What Will Happen: The Arkansas State offensive line hasn't been anything special at keeping aggressive teams from making things happen behind the line, but the running game has been effective. It'll have to be considering the WKU pass defense has been terrific.

Prediction: WKU 34 … Arkansas State 27
Line: WKU -6.5 o/u: 55.5

ULM (5-6) at Louisiana-Lafayette (8-2) Nov. 30 7:00, ESPN3

Why You Should Give A Hoot: Louisiana-Lafayette is pushing hard for the Sun Belt title, one game ahead of Arkansas State and two games up on rival ULM. On an eight-game winning streak since starting the year with loss to Arkansas and Kansas State rumbling through the conference slate and with the potential to grab at least a piece of the title with a win. The Ragin' Cajuns can take the championship outright with a win this week and a victory at South Alabama.

ULM has lost two straight games since making a big push in the Sun Belt with three straight wins. While a sixth win won't guarantee a bowl bid at least the Warhawks would be bowl eligible. However, they have to get the offense back on track after getting obliterated the last two games.

What Will Happen: The ULM run defense won't be able to hold up against the varied and effective ULL ground attack. With a balanced offense and high-powered scoring attack, the Ragin' Cajuns should be able to take control and hang on throughout to take home the rivalry win.

Prediction: Louisiana-Lafayette 44 … ULM 14
Line: Louisiana-Lafayette -14.5 o/u: 56.5
Must See Rating: (5 American Hustle – 1 The Sound of Music Live!) … 2
