Big East Bests, Worsts, and CFN's Team MVP Choices

Big East Player of the Year

Pat White, QB West Virginia
There's no wrong answer between White, WVU RB Steve Slaton, Louisville QB Brian Brohm or Rutgers RB Ray Rice. White gets the nod for a brilliant five game stretch in the middle of the Big East season when he was unstoppable on the ground and solid with the passing attack. He ran for 1,074 yards and 17 touchdowns while completing 66% of his throws with 11 touchdown passes and seven interceptions. With Slaton hurting for a stretch against Louisville, White almost carried the team to the win rushing for four scores and throwing for 222 yards.

Defensive Player of the Year - H.B. Blades, Sr. Pitt
Blades was consistent and dominant all season long finishing third in th nation with 147 stops with double-digit tackles in every game but the blowout against Citadel when he was given a rest. Even though he wasn't always turned loose because of his duties against the run, he did a good job of getting into the backfield.
