SEC Game of the Week
Auburn 20 ... Florida 17
Wes Byrum appeared to hit the game-winning 43-yard field goal for Auburn, but Florida head coach Urban Meyer had called time out just before the kick. No big deal. Byrum calmly nailed it again, as the Tigers stunned the Gators. Auburn took a 17-3 lead going into the fourth quarter, thanks to a 30-yard Byrum field goal, and scoring runs from six yards out by Kodi Burns and three yards out from Ben Tate. The Gators roared back in the fourth with Tim Tebow connecting with Cornelius Ingram for a six-yard touchdown pass, and barreling in from two yards out to tie it up. Florida had one final drive, went three and out, and Auburn went on its march to win the game.

SEC Player of the Week
Georgia RB Thomas Brown ran 16 times for 180 yards and three touchdowns, and caught a pass for 11 yards in the 45-17 win over Ole Miss.

Conference Roundup

Alabama … John Parker Wilson might be a good talent, and he might have played relatively well over the last few weeks, but the offense can't revolve around him. Against Florida State, Terry Grant only ran the ball nine times and the ground game was never established. The biggest problem was the secondary, that was put in a bad position on the big 70-yard DeCody Fagg touchdown that ended up sealing the game. Bama guessed run and got burned. Next week's game against Houston is now vital to getting a groove back before jumping back into SEC play.
Arkansas … That's what you're supposed to do to a team like North Texas. Darren McFadden and Felix Jones could've combined for 500 rushing yards had they rolled for en entire game, but they didn't need to with the Hogs cranking out 45 points in the first 25 minutes. Casey Dick still struggled with his consistency, but he came up with some big plays to add a little bit of balance. Against UT Chattanooga next week, the goal has to be to keep getting the passing game to work. McFadden and Jones don't need any more live practice time for the rest of the SEC season.
Auburn … Lost in the two earlier losses to South Florida and Mississippi State was how well the Tiger defense played. The D played well, the offense struggled, and had major problems with turnovers, and Auburn lost. Against Florida, the D played well, the offense lost one fumble, and Auburn won. It's not quite that simple, but this isn't going to be a dominant offense. It'll be effective for stretches, and it'll be opportunistic. As long as it's not screwing up, and as long as the O line plays as well as it did in Gainesville, the defense will take care of the rest. The schedule ahead is too tough, and the offense too mediocre, to dream of an SEC title right now, but this was a gigantic step to making it interesting.
Florida … If the Gators weren't going to lose this week to Auburn, they were going to lose in the near future, and more than once, because of the lack of a running back threat. Auburn's defense might be good, but the Gators didn't even pretend to get anyone other than Tim Tebow involved in the running game. Tebow might have been great, but the Florida offense was rolling early on, the running backs were getting the ball. Basically, the offense has become way too predictable. It's either going to be Tebow running the ball, or Percy Harvin getting involved in some way. That's good enough to beat just about anyone in America, but Florida can't win consistently, or be as dominant as it should, until all the parts are working on a regular basis.
Georgia … After the big win over Alabama, and with Tennessee coming up, the concern was whether or not Georgia would be able to focus for Ole Miss. After struggling for almost three quarters, the offensive line took over and dominated the Rebels on the ground. If Thomas Brown and Knowshown Moreno can keep ripping off big runs like they did this week, and the pressure is taken off Matthew Stafford, he didn't have to force many throws, this will be a tough offense to stop. The defense wasn't a rock, but it was good enough, and did a great job over the final 20 minutes.
Kentucky … 5-0. Kentucky is getting it done with a balanced offense, good enough defense to get by, and a Heisman caliber season from Andre Woodson, who had yet another stellar game. While beating Florida Atlantic might not seem like that big a deal, this is a team, and an offense, the rolled over Minnesota. Now the real fun begins with a trip to South Carolina. Win that, and with LSU and Florida to follow, the Cats can start to dream big.
LSU
… Talk about not showing up and getting a win. LSU turned it on against Tulane when it had to, allowed the defense to take care of things in the second half, and moved on to deal with Florida. The 15 penalties were a joke, and the offensive line had way too many problems early on against Frank Morton and the Green Wave interior, but this wasn't a game the team needed to be up for. Still, it's hard to ever complain over a 25-point win while holding Tulane to 139 yards passing and 88 rushing.
Ole Miss … After hanging tough against Florida, the Rebels did a good job of staying with Georgia for about 40 minutes, but the offense couldn't stop the Bulldog momentum late, and Seth Adams couldn't keep the chains moving when the team needed a big drive. BenJarvus Green-Ellis had a nice day running the ball, but with the problems the Rebel run defense had, he had to do even more to carry the offense.
Miss State … MSU's defense feasts off the big play, and didn't get enough of them against South Carolina. There was decent balance against a good Gamecock defense, but Josh Riddell struggled to make the consistent pass, even though he made a few big ones. When he got a chance, Wesley Carroll wasn't bad, but he didn't get anything on the move. MSU's offense has to be all about getting the chains moving, and it only converted three of 13 third down chances.
South Carolina … Considering the new quarterback situation, the injury to star LB Jasper Brinkley, and the overall issues with the offense this year, to crank out 402 yards of offense against a good Mississippi State defense is a huge step for the team. This is an aggressive, opportunistic Bulldog defense that feasts off mistakes, but USC QB Chris Smelley didn't provide many chances with a good, effective game with only one interception. Next week, Smelley will have to open things up even more, and the offense will have to be even more effective, to get by Kentucky.
Tennessee … Didn’t Play This Week
Vanderbilt … It's great for Vanderbilt to be at a point where it not only expects to beat a team like Eastern Michigan, it expects to win in a blowout. The defense did its part, forcing six turnovers and holding the Eagles to 173 yards of total offense, but to beat Auburn, Georgia, or South Carolina over the next three weeks, the turnovers have to stop. Chris Nickson threw four interceptions, and while there weren't any lost fumbles, the ball was put on the ground four times.
