Pac 10 Game of the Week
Stanford 24 ... USC 23
On fourth and goal from the ten, Stanford pulled off one of the biggest shockers of all-time when Mark Bradford fought his way for a touchdown catch to tie it. Derek Belch hit the extra point for the lead, and then the defense held on with its fourth pick of the night. John David Booty threw for 364 yards, highlighted by a 63-yard pass play to Fred Davis and a 47-yarder to Ronald Johnson, but overthrew his receivers late for two key interceptions, and threw one for a 31-yard Stanford pick six from Austin Yancy in the third. USC outgained the Cardinal 459 yards to 235.

Pac 10 Player of the Week
Stanford QB Tavita Pritchard went 11-of-30 for 149 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the win over USC.

Conference Roundup

Arizona … A week after ripping apart Washington State, the Arizona offense went into the tank against Oregon State, regressing in the running game and getting an awful performance from Willie Tuitama. Blame the offensive line. Tuitama didn't get rid of the ball quickly enough on several plays, but he never had a chance on most others, getting sacked eight times and needing to rush several throws. The running game was fine, with Nick Grigsby doing a good job again, but after a disastrous first half, the Wildcats needed to start chucking. Now they get a ticked off USC.
Arizona State … Beating Washington State was hardly easy, and for the first time all year, the running game got a good game out of Ryan Torain, but averaged 1.8 yards per carry, mainly because of the pass protection problems, but the Sun Devils found a way to win. 6-0 is 6-0, and after the Washington game, the real season starts with all the Pac 10 big boys ahead over a key four-game stretch. To win and stay in the Pac 10 title race, the offensive line can't play as poorly as it did this week after allowing seven sacks. Rudy Carpenter was under pressure all game long, and therw two interceptions, and now he'll need more protection in the upcoming shootouts.
California … Didn’t Play This Week
Oregon … Didn’t Play This Week
Oregon State … Oregon State might have just turned its season around. The running of Yvenson Bernard, the play of the defense, and better play from its quarterback than Arizona's led to the easy win. Sean Canfield was hardly sharp, throwing two picks and just 139 yards, but he didn't have to try to make the big plays like Willie Tuitama did. The OSU defense dictated the action, with the pressure into the backfield coming from all sides. It'll have to come up with eight sacks again next week to have a shot at beating Cal.
Stanford … The offense stunk against USC until the final six minutes, but the defense got decent pressure on John David Booty, and came up with the big interceptions to change the game around. It helped that USC wasn't sharp, but give credit to the Cardinal defensive front for holding up stunningly well against the run. This was an all-timer of a win for the program, and now head coach Jim Harbaugh will become a hot property. However, give credit to the heart of QB Tavita Pritchard for overcoming a shaky start to come through with the clutch throws needed to pull this off.
UCLA … The Bruins had better figure out the quarterback situation in a real hurry. Either Ben Olsen or Pat Cowan have to gut it out, despite not appearing to be able to late a whole game, or the running game will have to do a whole bunch more than it did against Notre Dame to have any shot against Cal in two weeks. McLeon Bethel-Thompson simply can't play, at least he couldn't against the Irish. The only way the Bruins could've lost that game was by screwing up. Seven turnovers and 11 penalties later, Merry Christmas, Notre Dame.
USC  …There's enough blame to go around for this all-timer of a gaffe, and Stanford deserves credit for coming through in the clutch, but this one might be on John David Booty. He threw for 364 yards and two long touchdowns, but he air mailed too many throws in the second half for interceptions. Also blame the lack of rushing production, and while it might seem too easy to blame all the injuries, there's no excuse to only average 2.5 yards per carry against Stanford. Can USC come back from this? No. Losing to Stanford kills national title dreams. It's Rose Bowl or bust now.
Washington … Didn’t Play This Week
Washington State … The Cougars are going to be kicking themselves for the loss to Arizona State. To win this game, it needs to get pressure on Rudy Carpenter. With seven sacks, check. It needed to get more from the passing game. 369 yards to 217, check. 11 penalties hurt, but the real killer was an interception for a touchdown that put the Sun Devils ahead in the third. The Cougars played well, but it allowed three key drives, and the pick-six, and that was the difference. ASU came through, and Wazzu didn't. This was a game the Cougars had to have with a trip to face a rested Oregon up next.
