keeping pace with Brink hitting Devin Frischknecht for touchdowns
from 41 and 19 yards out and Joshua Anderson from 28 yards away. A
final UW Hail Mary pass was picked off by Alfonso Jackson.

Conference Roundup
Arizona
… Didn’t Play This Week
Arizona State … ASU simply didn't
have the horses or the talent to beat a
USC with all its parts working. The
offensive line has been an issue all
season long in pass protection, and it
almost got Rudy Carpenter killed.
Despite being battered and beaten up all
night long, Carpenter hung in and kept
pressing, but to no avail. This is still
a strong ASU team, but it needs to
figure out something in a big, big hurry
or the Arizona defense will tee off on
Carpenter.
California … Didn’t Play This
Week
Oregon … Losing Dennis Dixon is
one thing, but to not have a backup who
can throw with any sort of consistency
is inexcusable. Oregon is a D-I/FBS
team; there should be someone who can
hit an open receiver. Fine, so the
quarterbacks struggled against UCLA;
then the coaching staff should've
figured out a way to get Jonathan
Stewart rolling. He's an elite running
back who never found a groove with the
Bruin defense loading up to stop him.
Now the Rose Bowl dream are kaput, and
the once promising season will truly go
in the tank if the offense can't figure
out something in a big hurry before
facing Oregon State.
Oregon State … Didn’t Play This
Week
Stanford … At this point in the
season, the team should be getting
tighter and not be making so many big
mistakes. The placekicking situation was
a disaster against Notre Dame while the
passing game struggled with Tavita
Pritchard getting banged up. The pass
rush was fine and the running game was
there, but the Cardinal almost had to
work to blow the game. the offense had
better gear up for a bit of a firefight
against Cal because the defense doesn't
have any one thing it's doing well.
UCLA … Osaar Rasshan can't play
quarterback anymore. He might be the
only option, but UCLA can't put him
under center and have any prayer of
competing against USC. For all the
injuries and all the problems, the
Bruins are somehow bowl eligible after
the win against Oregon. However, the
offense got ten first downs, 220 yards
of total offense, and only won because
Oregon was more inept. The defense will
have to pull off a gem like last year to
even think about pulling off the upset
next week.
USC … Rested, healthy and
loaded, USC is now playing like the
number one team everyone thought it'd be
to start the season. John David Booty
lit up Arizona State in one of the best
games of his career, but this win
belongs to the defensive line. Lawrence
Jackson was unstoppable, while Sedrick
Ellis did a fantastic job of gumming
things up inside. There were too many
penalties, committing ten, but this was
a great win that puts the Trojans back
in the Rose Bowl hunt. Now they need to
beat UCLA and get an Oregon loss.
Washington … The Washington
secondary has hit the skids over the
last few weeks getting picked apart by
Cal's Nate Longshore and now Washington
State's Alex Brink. That's not a good
sign going into the date with Hawaii.
Jake Locker was solid and the running
game was fine, but to have any shot
against the Warriors, the defense will
have to do a better job of getting to
Colt Brennan than it did this week.
Washington State … The season
might have been a disappointment with
yet another campaign without a bowl, but
closing out with an Apple Cup win showed
just how good Alex Brink and the offense
could be when everything was working.
The defense struggled yet again and it
took a big comeback to pull off the win,
but Brink never let up and the big plays
kept on coming. This is a program known
for high-powered passing games, so
whatever happens with the coaching
situation must first figure out how to
keep the offense flowing while getting
nastier on D.
