SEC Game of the Week
Mississippi State 17 ... Alabama 12
Up 9-3, Alabama was driving for an apparent late first half score, but Anthony Johnson picked off a John Parker Wilson pass in the end zone and took it 100 yards for a touchdown to change the game. Anthony Dixon ran for a three-yard Bulldog touchdown early in the second half, and MSU had all the points it would need to pull off the upset and become bowl eligible. Alabama only managed four Leigh Tiffin field goals, hitting from 39, 51, 29 and 50 yards out. Alabama only gained 274 yards of total offense, but MSU only came up with 215.

SEC Player of the Week
Florida RB Tim Tebow completed 22 of 32 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns with an interception, and ran 26 times for 120 yards and five scores in the win over South Carolina

Conference Roundup

Alabama … Mississippi State had two weeks to prepare for an Alabama team that appeared to be still beaten up and battered after the loss to LSU. Even so, the defense played extremely well throughout, and the offense had its chances early on to all but put the game away. Settling for three field goals, and the pick six at the end of the half, meant it was 10-9 MSU instead of a mega-lead for Bama. Now it's time to regroup, blast UL Monroe, and focus on the task at hand, Auburn. To win that game, the O will have to take advantage of every opportunity.
Arkansas … The consistency of the Arkansas running game just isn't there, while the secondary struggled again for a second straight week. It didn't give up a ton of yards to Tennessee's Erik Ainge, just 128, but it gave up just enough key throws early on to get down. When Darren McFadden and Felix Jones, who only ran three times for three yards, didn't get going and didn't hit any home runs, the game was over. The Hogs need to quickly regroup and beat Mississippi State next week, or a bowl game might hinge on beating LSU in Death Valley.
Auburn … What was that from the Auburn defense against Georgia? It didn't generate nearly enough pressure on Matthew Stafford, blew a few coverages early, and got an awful day out of its experienced veteran quarterback, Brandon Cox. That was an unAuburn-like day that now means the Alabama game is for more than just the Iron Bowl, it's to avoid a mediocre 7-5 regular season and be thrown among the also-rans in a throwaway bowl. This team is better than that, and it has two weeks to figure out to play like it again.
Florida … It's time to put Tim Tebow at the front of the line in the Heisman race. He's not only throwing more efficiently than anyone in America, but he's on the verge of breaking the all-time mark for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in a season. With 14 coming into the South Carolina game, he's now at 19 and needing four more to break the record. He's getting a boost in the passing game with Andre Caldwell exploding, and now he needs his defense to provide a little more help.
Georgia … While Georgia doesn't control its own destiny to the SEC title, it's playing like a team able to challenge LSU for the championship. That's a strong Auburn defense that got gashed by the Dawgs, while the defense shut down the mediocre Tiger attack. Matthew Stafford might have thrown a bad interception, but he bombed away well averaging a whopping 21.5 yards per completion. With Kentucky and Georgia Tech certain to throw everything and the mascot at Knowshon Moreno over the next two weeks, Stafford will have to keep taking advantage of his opportunities.
Kentucky … What has happened to the Kentucky offense? A juggernaut earlier in the season, it stunk against Mississippi State and lost, had two weeks off, and was mediocre against Vanderbilt. The 13 penalties and struggles to run the ball consistently were glaring, and the O has to be far, far better to get by Georgia and Tennessee teams with everything to play for. It's time for Andre Woodson to start playing like a first round draft pick again. He's been fine, but he has to start making everyone around him shine.
LSU
… LSU didn't exactly go through the motions against Louisiana Tech, but it wasn't the team's sharpest game of the year. Of course it's hard to argue with a 48 point win, but the offense wasn't clicking on third downs and there weren't enough sacks after only coming up with two. That's nitpicking. Obviously the team didn't have to come up with its full intensity, but with the world watching more than ever, and with many thinking Oregon deserves a shot in the national title game over the Tigers, style points count now. Lost in the win was how LSU clinched the West without playing an SEC game.
Ole Miss … Didn’t Play This Week
Miss State  The MSU offense went nowhere against Alabama, Wesley Carroll struggled mightily to get the passing game moving, and Anthony Dixon, for the most part, was stuffed. It didn't matter. The defense came up with a gem, and the offense came up with a nice scoring drive when it was handed great field position in the third quarter, and now it's bowl time. Getting a win over Arkansas and/or Ole Miss would secure a bowl bid, but as is, the SEC is going to make sure the Bulldogs get a 13th game. This might not be a pretty team, but it can hit like a ton of bricks.
South Carolina … South Carolina looks like a team that flat ran out of gas. The Tennessee loss appears to have taken the life out of the team, as the run defense has gone bye-bye and the offense can't keep up. This was a team that found ways to win before, and now it's getting steamrolled over with Arkansas and Florida doing whatever they wanted to on the ground. Clemson is all about balance now, but in two weeks when the showdown comes to Columbia, it might be the James Davis and C.J. Spiller show if the USC run defense doesn't make some quick adjustments.
Tennessee … Tennessee sure isn't playing like a team due to get knocked out of the SEC race. With its amazing win over Arkansas, with the best defense it's played all year against the run, the Vols still control their own destiny needing to win out against Vanderbilt and Kentucky to play LSU for the title. This game showed that the offense doesn't have to be razor-sharp to beat a great team. Arian Foster will have a hard time getting All-SEC recognition this year, but he's been as vital as any back can be for a team. He's coming through time and again.
Vanderbilt … Vandy didn't get Kentucky's best game, but the Commodore D had a lot to do with that. The offense did just enough to stay in the game, but not enough at the end, and now Vandy needs to battle to get that sixth win for bowl eligibility. More deep plays from the passing game will be a must to have a shot against Tennessee, and it needs to be perfect, without the turnovers and penalties there were this week, to beat Wake Forest.
