SEC Game of the Week
Tennessee 25 ... Vanderbilt 24
Tennessee's Daniel Lincoln connected on a 33-yard field goal with 2:46 to play for a lead, and then the Vols had to hang on as Bryant Hahnfeldt just missed a 49-yard field goal attempt with 33 seconds to play. The Commodores got up 24-9 on three Mackenzi Adams touchdown passes, but the Vols roared back in the fourth quarter on 16 unanswered points with Erik Ainge connecting with Josh Briscoe for a seven-yard touchdown and with Austin Rogers from five yards out. Vandy only came up with 270 yards of total offense to Tennessee's 350.

SEC Player of the Week
Florida RB Tim Tebow completed 25 of 34 passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns, and ran 11 times for 31 yards and a touchdown in the win over Florida Atlantic

Conference Roundup

Alabama … Talk about bottoming out. Either Alabama had big-time problems looking ahead to Auburn, or the offense really is that bad. UL Monroe's offense was held in check, but it was opportunistic and got just enough from the running game to keep things moving. It wasn't like the Bama offense had things working and just couldn't catch a break; it was just awful in the second half and now has to deal with a rested and revved up Auburn D. Uh oh. A four-game losing streak to close out will sour the first tear of the Nick Saban era in a big hurry.
Arkansas … The secondary has been a disaster over the last few weeks, and the running game has bogged down a bit too much, but the emergence of Casey Dick as a more reliable passer should be a huge help against LSU. After last year's disastrous game against the Tigers, his performance against Mississippi State should be just good enough to keep a little heat off Darren McFadden. Felix Jones was missed, but Peyton Hillis picked up a little of the slack. Jones should be back for LSU.
Auburn … Didn’t Play This Week
Florida … In a throwaway game against Florida Atlantic, the offense was able to open things up a little bit while the defense was able to overcome a rough second quarter. Tim Tebow once again showed why he needs to be the favorite for the Heisman, or at least in the top two, by setting the SEC record for rushing touchdowns in a year with 20, while throwing tremendously well once again. Andre Caldwell continues to blow up with a fantastic 13 catch performance. The team's only real knock was a penalty problem, committing 12 for 75 yards.
Georgia … Georgia showed that it could win when things weren't going well. The offense turned it over four times against Kentucky and didn't get anything to click from the passing game down the field, but the defense hit Andre Woodson time and again while the running game was its typical strong self with Thomas Brown contributing more, with 73 yards and a score, in his second game back from injury. He might not be nearly as effective as Knowshown Moreno, but he was able to crank out 22 carries to help the overall workload. Now the Dawgs need a Tennessee loss to play LSU for the SEC title.
Kentucky … Kentucky's offense can't get back on track over the second half of the season and it's mostly due to the offensive line. Georgia's defensive front had its way with the Wildcat front five pressuring Andre Woodson all game long and stuffing the running game. The defense had a relatively strong game holding the Dawgs to 283 yards of total offense and forcing four turnovers, and now it'll have to do even more, while hoping the offense wakes up, to have a shot against Tennessee next week.
LSU
… LSU continues to put up big numbers, continues to turn it on when it has to, and continues to win, but even through it's the No. 1 team in the country and things are going well, it still hasn't played a complete game since mid-September. The run defense gave up 201 yards, and while most were to running quarterback Brent Schaeffer, there has to be some concern going into the Arkansas game. Offensively, Matt Flynn led an efficient attack, but it could use more pop out of Early Doucet and the rest of the receiving corps. There's too much explosion to not put a team like Ole Miss away right off the bat.
Ole Miss … Now that's what Brent Schaeffer should've been doing all along. He's never going to be an efficient passer, but he can make a few big plays here and there, and he has the speed and athleticism to take off and be a weapon to freak out defenses. Against LSU, he kept the Rebels in the game and kept the heat on. This was a stronger game for Ole Miss than the final score might indicate, and while it was fine to lose to LSU like this, is won't be as acceptable against Mississippi State. The offense has to keep the yards rolling, but the turnovers have to stop, or at least slow way down.
Miss State … On the plus side out of the loss to the Hogs, Wesley Carroll and the passing game was as impressive as they've been all season, and it's good to know MSU can air it out, but there were too many turnovers and the defense didn't come up with any early stops to let the Bulldog offense try out the running game. Not that it was going anywhere, with Anthony Dixon averaging 2.4 yards per carry, but after the first quarter it was all about bombing away. Against Ole Miss, it'll be vital to take the early lead. The Rebels aren't able to throw their way back into games.
South Carolina … Didn’t Play This Week
Tennessee … Everyone keeps waiting for Tennessee to screw up so Georgia can go off and play LSU for the SEC championship, and all the Vols keep doing is winning and winning and winning. Tim Tebow has a lock on the First Team All-SEC honors, but Erik Ainge is having a phenomenally effective year as he quietly keeps leading the way to big drives when the team needs them. Beating Vanderbilt is tougher than it might appear, but getting that SEC sealing victory over Kentucky will be a war. The Wildcats might not be playing well, but the spotlight, and the pressure, are on. The last time the Vols were on the road they were blasted by Alabama.
Vanderbilt … How many more times will Vanderbilt get its heart broken? It's had its chances to pull off wins to get bowl eligible under Bobby Johnson, but something always seems to go wrong when the team needs that one big play to pull off a key win. The defense couldn't hang on in the fourth quarter, while the offense never got anything going after Mackenzi Adams had a terrific first half. After losing three straight, a win over Wake Forest is a must to get the magical sixth win.
