North Texas 31 ...UL Monroe 21
North Texas got two defensive touchdowns and a 99-yard
touchdown catch from Casey Fitzgerald on the way to a stunningly
easy win. Defensive tackle Montey Stevenson took an interception 20
yards for a score, Fitzgerald came up with his big play, and
Dominique Green took an interception 75 yards for a touchdown as
part of a 21-0 second quarter. The Mean Green was up 31-7 on a
one-yard Micah Mosley run, while the D only allowed a 46-yard Zeek
Zacharie touchdown catch before the final 1:23.

Corey Leonard completed 17 of 23 passes
for 275 yards and five touchdowns and
ran 18 times for 84 yards and a score in
the win over UL Lafayette.

… Now there's the ASU offense everyone
has been looking for. After collapsing
in the loss to UL Monroe, everything
worked against UL Lafayette with one of
the best overall performances of the Sun
Belt season, highlighted by five Corey
Leonard touchdown passes. Now it all has
to carry over for the next two weeks
against Middle Tennessee and Troy. Win
those games, and all of a sudden, ASU
will be the lead dog in the Sun Belt
title race.

Middle Tennessee … The Blue
Raiders had been so close to come big
wins over the last few weeks, and now,
because of the play of Dwight Dasher and
the running game, things have changed.
Memphis couldn't get anything going on
the MT defense, getting stuffed time and
again when running the ball, and coming
away with empty drive after empty drive
trying to throw it. Now the focus is all
on the Sun Belt. If Florida Atlantic
stumbles along the way, it's all there
for MT if it wins out. It all starts
with a big game against Arkansas State.
North Texas … Defense? For the
first time all year, the Mean Green
defense showed up, coming up with big
plays early, and holding UL Monroe to
130 rushing yards with three pickoffs.
The offense didn't get its normal
passing numbers, even with a 99-yard
touchdown, but it didn't need it. The
running game and the defense were enough
to win with this week. Eventually it'll
all come together, and the passing game
will blow up and the defense will be a
rock, but for now, just getting wins any
way possible is important.
Troy … Didn’t Play This Week
UL Lafayette … ULL did a great
job of keeping up the pace in the first
half of the firefight with Arkansas
State, but when the team needed to start
throwing the ball in the second half, it
wasn't able to get the job done, and it
wasn't able to get back in the game. Now
out of the Sun Belt title picture, and
with tough games ahead with three
straight road dates after the Florida
Atlantic game. In a big hurry, the
defense has to tighten up, especially in
the defensive backfield.
UL Monroe … UL Monroe got down
early to North Texas, couldn't get the
passing game going, with it being more
of a detriment than anything else, and
now the Warhawks are out of the Sun Belt
title race. The defense, overall, did a
great job, but it gave up a backbreaking
99-yard touchdown pass, and didn't
stiffen when UNT had chances to put the
game away late. Now, a win over FIU is a
must before dealing with a road trip to
Florida Atlantic and a date with Middle
Tennessee.
