Midseason All-America Teams
Player of the Midseason -
Michael Crabtree, WR Texas Tech
Not only is Crabtree the nation's leading receiver; it's not
even close. The redshirt freshman has 78 catches, eight more
than anyone else. He has 1,244 yards, with the number two man
with 884, and his 17 touchdown catches are six more than New
Mexico State's Chris Williams. He's been consistent,
spectacular, and unstoppable.
Coach of the Midseason
-
Jim Leavitt, South Florida
Call this a lifetime achievement award as much as anything else.
USF was supposed to be good, but second in the BCS rankings is
something special for a program that wasn't even on the map nine
years ago.
Game of the Midseason -
LSU 28 ...
Florida 24, Oct 6
LSU chose to go for it on fourth
down deep in Florida territory, rather
than kick the field goal that would've
tied it, got it, and finished off the
drive with a two-yard Jacob Hester
touchdown run with just over a minute to
play. Tim Tebow's last gasp Hail Mary
was batted down in the end zone. Florida
jumped out to a 10-0 lead on a 31-yard
field goal and a two-yard touchdown
catch from Kestahn Moore, and took a
17-7 lead into halftime on a one-yard
Tebow run. LSU dominated the second
half, controlling things on the ground,
with Keiland Williams scoring from four
yards out and Demetrius Byrd catching a
four-yard scoring pass, but a 37-yard
Cornelius Ingram scoring play helped
Florida stay ahead until the final
moments.
Biggest Surprise -
The entire year
Where do you want to start? Kicking off the year with
Appalachian State's win over Michigan, and continuing on week
after week with upset after upset. These aren't just upsets;
these are Stanford over USC all-timers. How crazy has the year
been? Just look at the initial BCS rankings with South Florida
second, Boston College third, Kentucky is seventh, and Kansas
ranked ahead of USC.
Biggest Disappointment -
The Big Ten
Oh sure, Ohio State is number one, but so far, the league has
received little in the way of national respect with Michigan the
league's second best team in the BCS rankings, and coming in at
just 25th. Penn State, Wisconsin and Illinois are in the top 30,
but that's hardly anything to crow about when the SEC has seven
teams in the top 25, the Big 12 has five, the ACC has three, the
Big East three, and the Pac 10 has four.
Best performance so far -
In a losing
cause, Texas Tech QB Graham Harrell completed 46 of 67 passes for
646 yards and five touchdown passes in the 49-45 loss to
Oklahoma State.
