Big
East
Player
of the Year
Pat
White. QB West Virginia
Unfortunately, White's 2007 season will
likely be remembered for what he didn't
do rather than the great performances
that got the team to a Big East
championship and the Fiesta Bowl. Banged
up against South Florida, he wasn't able
to be on the field late in the big early
loss, and while he gutted it out against
Pitt, his poor decisions and lack of big
plays throughout helped keep the
Mountaineers from the national title.
The good needs to outweigh the bad. His
brilliant late touchdown run beat
Louisville, he led the way to the win
over Cincinnati, the blowout over
Connecticut, and again (it has to be
repeated), the Big East title.
Defensive
Player of the Year -
Scott McKillop, LB Pitt
South
Florida pass rushing superstar George
Selvie certainly deserves to be named
the Defensive Player of the Year, but
McKillop was too special throughout the
year as a tackler and playmaker behind
the line for the not-that-bad Panther
defense. Selvie only came up with one
sack over the final four games, while
McKillop came up with 30 solo tackles
alone over the final three games. He was
more consistent throughout the year.
