Conference USA
Player
of the Year
Kevin
Smith, RB UCF
It
wasn't just that Smith led the nation in
rushing with a historic 2,448-yard, 29
touchdown season, it's that he carried
the team throughout and was able to come
through down the stretch when the team
needed him the most. 43 carries at
Southern Miss. 41 at UAB. 46 against
UTEP. He was a workhorse over the second
half of the season before taking the
Knights to the Conference USA title with
a 284-yard, four touchdown day against
Tulsa.
Defensive
Player of the Year -
Chris Chamberlain, LB Tulsa
The speedy senior was all over the field
trying to save a woeful defense. He made
92 solo tackles alone with 148 on the
year with three interceptions. While he
didn't get into the backfield all that
often, he was busy making plays
everywhere else thanks to a poor
defensive front. He finished a strong
career with 287 tackles.
