Projected Conference USA

Starting Lineups

Who has the edge on a starting job going into the summer? What's the key position to watch out for and what needs to be addressed before the season starts? Here are the prjected starting lineups for every team.

Projected Starting Lineups
ACC | Big East | Big 12 | Big Ten
C-USA | MAC | M-West | SEC
Coming Wednesday: Pac 10, Sun Belt, WAC, Independents

EAST

East Carolina

QB 15 Patrick Pinkney, 6-0, 198, Sr.
RB 24 Dominique Lindsay, 5-10, 210, Sr.
RB 25 Brandon Simmons, 6-1, 223, Sr.

Position Spotlight: It's going to take several players to replace the lightning fast Chris Johnson and all he provided. While Lindsay and Simmons have been around long enough to be serviceable, but neither one is a No. 1 option. J.R Rogers will also see carries, but it's sophomore Jonathan Williams who could become the star with a little bit of experience.

WR 10 Jamar Bryant. 6-2, 208, Jr.
WR 80 Alex Taylor, 6-4, 207, Jr.
TE 3 Davon Drew, 6-4, 254, Sr.
OT 78 Stanley Bryant, 6-5, 282, Sr.
OG 73 T.J. Harper, 6-2, 317, Jr.
C 54 Sean Allen, 6-3, 307, Jr.
OG 70 Doug Palmer, 6-3, 300, Jr.
OT 66 D.J. Scott. 6-6, 324, So.
PK 30 Ben Hartman, 5-11, 210, Jr.

DE 41 Zack Slate, 6-5, 221, Sr.
DT 90 Jay Ross, 6-3, 306, Jr.
DT 93 Brandon Setzer, 6-6, 335, Sr.
DE 95 C.J. Wilson, 6-4, 271, Jr.
LB 50 Quentin Cotton, 6-2, 224, Sr.
LB 44 Nick Johnson, 6-1, 215, Jr.
LB 9 Melvin Patterson, 6-3, 219, So.
CB 35 Jerek Hewett, 5-11, 195, Sr.
SS 1 Leon Best, 6-0, 205, Sr.
FS 4 Van Eskridge, 6-0, 200, Jr.
CB 21 Darryl Reynolds, 6-1, 189, So.
P 14 Matt Dodge, 6-2, 220, Jr.

Marshall

QB 10 Mark Cann, 6-4, 237, RFr.
Position Spotlight: The Herd hasn't gotten steady, good quarterback play in years, and the only hope of an overall team improvement will come if someone can get the offense moving. The issue still hasn't been decided, but Cann has the decision-making ability and the quick trigger to handle the no-huddle attack. Brian Anderson and Jonathan Garner will also get a shot this summer.

RB 5 Darius Marshall, 5-10, 193, So.
WR 24 Emmanuel Spann, 5-11,195, Sr.
WR 1 Darius Passmore, 6-3, 186, Sr.
WR 3 E.J. Wynn, 5-11, 165, Sr.
TE 85 Cody Slate, 6-4, 220, Jr.
OT 78 Brandon Campbell, 6-5, 319, So.
OG 61 Josh Evans, 6-4, 324, So.
C 65 Brian Leggett, 6-1, 285, Sr.
OG 62 Matt Altobello, 6-1, 301, Sr.
OT 79 Daniel Baldridge, 6-9, 307, Jr.
PK 92 Craig Rantanamorn, 6-4, 184, Jr.

DE 21 Ian Hoskins, 6-2, 256, Sr.
DT 97 Shane Moore, 6-2, 286, So.
DT 91 Johnny Jones, 6-5, 289, So.
DE 96 Albert McClellan, 6-2, 259, Jr.
LB 44 Corey Hart, 6-2, 223, So.
LB 45 Maurice Kitchens, 6-3, 247, Sr.
LB 30 Mario Harvey, 6-0, 252, Jr.
CB 8 J.J Johnson, 5-11, 188, Sr.
SS 20 Ashton Hall, 5-10, 197, Jr.
FS 4 C.J. Spillman, 6-0, 193, Sr.
CB 17 Dequan Bembry, 5-10, 174, RFr.
P 51 Cody Ochoa, 6-1, 183, So.

Memphis

QB 10 Matt Malouf, 6-3, 212, So.

Position Spotlight: Memphis hasn't figured out its quarterback situation yet. Martin Hankins will be sorely missed, and while Malouf has experience as a backup, he's not exactly the type to revolve an entire offense around. Washington State transfer Arkelon Hall hasn't stepped up and has been mistake prone.

RB 26 Curtis Steele, 6-0, 185, Jr.
WR 89 Carlos Singleton, 6-8, 215, Jr.
WR 14 Earnest Williams, 6-0, 192, Sr.
WR 2 Steven Black, 6-3, 213, Sr.
TE 85 Brett Russell, 6-3, 245, Sr.
OT 71 Brandon Pearce, 6-6, 300, Sr.
OG 77 Maclom Rawls, 6-5, 315, Jr.
C 57 Philip Beliles, 6-5, 290, Sr.
OG 54 Terrence Echols, 6-3, 307, Sr.
OT 55 Brent Todd, 6-3, 320, Sr.
PK 43 Matt Reagan, 6-1, 210, Jr.

DE 41 Corey Mills, 6-4, 260, Sr.
NT 99 Freddie Barnett, 6-2, 300, Sr.
DT 53 Clinton McDonald, 6-3, 265, Sr.
DE 94 Greg Terrell, 6-4, 255, Jr.
LB 59 Greg Jackson, 6-2, 205, Jr.
LB 50 Winston Bowens, 6-0, 250, So.
LB 25 Jeremy Rockette, 6-3, 220, Jr.
CB 16 Deante Lamar, 5-9, 180, Jr.
SS 8 Tony Bell, 6-2, 215, Sr.
FS 2 Brandon Patterson, 6-1, 195, Sr.
CB 21 LeRico Mathis, 6-1, 185, Sr.
P 49 Brent Sutherland, 6-4, 210, Sr.

Southern Miss

QB 12 Austin Davis, 6-2, 205, RFr.
Position Spotlight: Who can make the quickest transition to the Larry Fedora open passing offense? Martevious Young might end up being the better option, but he's too mistake prone. Davis is steady and accurate, and that's good enough for this offense with Damion Fletcher to hand off to.
RB 25 Damion Fletcher, 5-10, 175, Jr.
WR 80 Torris Magee, 6-2, 204, So.
FL 83 Johdrick Morris, 6-3, 195, So.
WR 86 Gerald Baptiste, 6-0, 171, Jr.
TE 1 Shawn Nelson, 6-5, 240, Sr.
OT 72 Calvin Wilson, 6-6, 352, Jr.
OG 76 Wesley Housley, 6-2, 293, Jr.
C 59 Cameron Zipp, 6-1, 289, So.
OG 71 Ryan Hebert, 6-5, 305, Jr.
OT 66 Ryan McKee, 6-6, 275, Jr.
PK 3 Britt Barefoot, 6-0, 181, Sr.

DE 96 David Boyce, 6-6, 243, So.
NT 92 Eric Phillips, 6-7, 280, Sr.
DT 95 Anthony Gray, 6-0, 311, So.
Rock 45 Roshaad Byrd, 6-3, 258, So.
LB 41 Tokumbo Abanikanda, 6-0, 217, Sr.
LB 24 Gerald McRath, 6-3, 220, Jr.
LB 21 Brandon Davis, 6-1, 205, Jr.
CB 23 Eddie Willingham, 5-10, 179, Sr.
BS 30 Chico Hunter, 6-0, 190, So.
FS 18 Eddie Hicks, 6-2, 185, Jr.
CB 28 Michael McGee, 5-10, 181, Jr.
P 3 Britt Barefoot, 6-0, 181, Sr.

UAB

QB 5 Joseph Webb, 6-3, 220, Jr.
RB 38 Dexter Barnett, 5-10, 180, So.
WR 11 Mario Wright, 6-5, 205, So.
WR 7 Frantrell Forrest, 6-2, 195, So.
WR 22 Mike Jones, 6-1, 180, So.
TE 86 Jeffrey Anderson, 6-3, 255, So.
OT 71 Matt McCants, 6-7, 295, So.
OG 68 Adam Hollifield, 6-3, 300, So.
C 73 Caleb Thomas, 6-3, 290, RFr.
OG 75 Daniel Seahorn, 6-5, 295, Jr.
OT 55 Terence Edge, 6-4, 295, So.
PK
94 Swayze Waters, 6-0, 170, Sr.

DE 87 Bryant Turner 6-2, 260, So.
DT 97 D.J. Reese 6-4, 280, So.
NT 91 Tim Davis 6-0, 265, So.
DE 95 Richard Carter 6-6, 240, Sr.
LB 44 Kyle Roget 6-1, 235, Jr.

Position Spotlight: With injury problems in the linebacking corps, UAB needed some prospects to step up this spring, and Roget and Keon Harris did just that. Roget, a JUCO transfer, proved early on that he can handle himself against the run while being able to keep his mistakes to a minimum.

LB 46 Terry Thomas 6-1, 230, Sr.
LB 13 Keon Harris 5-11, 205, So.
CB 21 Kevin Sanders 5-11, 185, Jr.
SS 43 Matt Taylor 5-11, 185, Sr.
FS 18 Will Dunbar 6-1, 200, Sr.
CB 4 Brandon Carlisle 5-10, 180, Jr.
P 94 Swayze Waters, 6-0, 170, Sr.

UCF

QB 2 Michael Greco, 6-3, 220, Jr.
RB 30 Phillip Smith, 6-1, 194 So.
Position Spotlight: How can UCF possibly replace a heart-and-soul, 2,000-yard back like Kevin Smith? It'll do it with plenty of prospects led by Phillip Smith, who got hurt, but will be fine. Even so, several other backs will help the cause with James Jamison and Ronnie Weaver pushing for time.

FB 46 Ricky Kay, 6-3, 245, So.
WR 5 Rocky Ross, 6-2, 196, Sr.
WR 81 Kamar Aiken, 6-2, 205, So.
TE 84 Corey Rabazinski, 6-3, 243, Jr.
OT 78 Patrick Brown, 6-5, 292 Jr.
OG 66 Jeramy Devane, 6-3, 300, Jr.
C 62 Mike Lavoie, 6-5, 292, Sr.
OG 68 Cody Minnich, 6-3, 296 Sr.
OT 76 Jah Reid, 6-7, 320, So.
PK 45 Jordan Dodds, 5-11, 210, So.

DE 48 David Williams, 6-2, 234, So
DT 95 Travis Timmons, 6-4, 285, Jr.
DT 98 Torrell Troup, 6-3, 320, Jr.
DE 49 Bruce Miller, 6-2, 249 So.
LB 38 Derrick Hallman, 6-0, 205, So.
LB 54 Chance Henderson, 6-1, 241, Jr.
LB 59 Cory Hogue, 6-1, 228, Sr.
CB 19 Joe Burnett, 5-11, 185, Sr.
FS 45 Jason Venson, 5-10, 211, Sr.
SS 29 Sha’reff Rashad, 6-0, 198, Sr.
CB 31 Johnell Neal, 5-11, 176, Sr.
P 41 Blake Clingan, 6-3, 221, So.

WEST

Houston

QB 7 Case Keenum, 6-1, 210, So.
RB 6 Andre Kohn, 5-10, 195, So.
Position Spotlight: The quarterback situation appears to have been settled, so now the focus is on the running backs in an attempt to replace Anthony Alridge. Terrance Ganaway has the experience as Alridge's backup, but Kohn is a strong receiver out of the backfield and has a bit more pop.

WR 10 L.J. Castile, 6-3, 210, So.
WR 8 Chris Gilbert, 5-8, 170, Jr.
WR 87 Mark Hafner, 6-3, 230, Sr.
WR 82 Chaz Rodriguez, 6-2, 185, So.
OT 74 SirVincent Rogers, 6-4, 315, Sr.
OG 75 Isaiah Agson, 6-3, 335, Sr.
C 57 Carl Barnett, 6-2, 285, Jr.
OG 64 Michael Bloesch, 6-2, 295, Sr.
OT 59 Sebastian Vollmer, 6-8, 290, Sr.
PK 83 Jonathan Gibson, 5-8, 175, So.

DE 92 Billy Hartford, 6-2, 260, Sr.
NT 97 Isaiah Thompson, 6-4, 295, So.
DT 91 Tate Stewart, 6-3, 250, Sr.
DE 53 Phillip Hunt, 6-2, 260, Sr.
LB 30 Matt Nicholson, 6-3, 225, Jr.
LB 34 Cody Lubojasky, 6-3, 230, Sr.
LB 43 Tyrell Graham, 6-3, 225, Jr.
CB 21 Brandon Brinkley, 5-11, 175, Jr.
SS 5 Ernest Miller, 6-0, 195, Sr.
FS 28 Kenneth Fontenette, 6-0, 185, Sr.
CB 8 Quinte Williams, 5-11, 165, Sr.
P 80 Chase Turner, 6-4, 250, Jr.

Rice

QB 16 Chase Clement 6-1, 208 Sr.
TB 28 C. J. Ugokwe 5-11, 213 Jr.
WR 81 Jarett Dillard 5-11, 185 Sr.
WR 12 James Casey 6-4, 245 So.
WR 7 Tommy Henderson 5-9, 185 Sr.
WR 3 Toren Dixon 6-2, 208 Jr.
OT 56 Scott Mitchell 6-4, 270 So.
OG 60 Jimmy Miller 6-3, 305 Sr.
C 73 Austin Wilkinson 6-2, 275 Sr.
OG 63 David Berken 6-4, 295 Sr.
OT 64 Tyler Parish 6-4, 300 RFr.
PK 46 Clark Fangmeier, 5-11, 185, Jr.

DE 13 Scott Solomon 6-3, 250 So.
DT 89 Chance Talbert 6-6, 250 Jr.
NT 74 Chris Ptaszek 6-5, 302 Sr.
DE 55 Cheta Ozougwu 6-2, 240 So.

Position Spotlight: Who says Rice can't play any defense? With Scott Solomon one of Conference USA's rising defensive stars, the opportunities will be there for Ozougwu to see plenty of single blocking on the other side. Ozougwu doesn't have Solomon's pass rushing ability, but he needs to be a consistent producer.

LB 31 Brian Raines 6-1, 222 Sr.
LB 36 Vernon James 6-1, 220 Sr.
CB 2 Joseph Leary 5-11, 180 So.
SS 32 Willie Garley 5-11, 195 So.
FS 30 Andrew Sendejo 6-1, 213 Jr.
KAT 20 Bencil Smith 5-11, 200 Sr.
CB 15 Brandon King 5-9., 182 Sr.
P 96 Mark Brundage 6-0, 170 Fr.

SMU

QB 11 Logan Turner, 6-0, 179, RFr.
Position Spotlight: Turner is just renting this spot. Justin Willis is back on the team after serving his penance, and once he shakes the rust off he'll be the steady, accurate passer the June Jones offense needs. Turner was fine this spring, as was Daniel Miller, to give Jones more options to work with if Willis isn't ready.

RB 8 DeMyron Martin, 6-2, 234, Sr.
WR 17 Emmanuel Sanders, 6-1, 175, Jr.
WR 24 Aldrick Robinson, 5-10, 170, So.
WR 32 Josh Bryant, 5-8, 176, So.
WR 5 Zach Zimmerman, 6-1, 166, Jr.
OT 70 Kelvin Beachum, 6-3, 283, RFr.
OG 74 Sean Lobo, 6-3, 300, Sr.
C 51 Mitch Enright, 6-2, 272, Jr.
OG 68 Bryce Tennison, 6-3, 292, RFr.
OT 67 Tommy Poynter, 6-4, 277, Sr.
PK 15 Thomas Morstead, 6-5, 233, Sr.

DE 42 Anthony Sowe, 6-2, 240, So.
DT 94 Patrick Handy, 6-2, 256, Sr.
DT 99 Serge Elizee, 6-1, 301, Sr.
DE 48 Youri Yenga, 6-2, 225, Sr.
LB 27 Will Bonilla, 5-11, 225, Sr.
LB 40 Justin Smart, 6-2, 240, So.
LB 52 Pete Fleps, 6-2, 226, So.
CB 12 Derrius Bell, 5-10, 167, So.
SS 10 Rock Dennis, 5-10, 189, Jr.
FS 41 Tyler Jones, 6-1, 203, So.
CB 6 Bryan McCann, 6-0, 176, Jr.
P 15 Thomas Morstead, 6-5, 233, Sr.

Tulane

QB 2 Kevin Moore, 6-5, 213, So.
TB 32 Andre Anderson, 6-0, 210, Jr.
FB 35 Jordan Stephany, 6-0, 243, So.

SE 83 Brian King, 6-1, 190, Sr.
FL 20 Jeremy Williams, 6-1, 203, So.
TE 80 Justin Kessler, 6-4, 260, Sr.
LT 77 Troy Kropog, 6-6, 292, Sr.
LG 65 Michael Parenton, 6-2, 295, Sr.
C 68 Andrew Nierman, 6-1, 300, Fr.
RG 75 Tyler Rice, 6-4, 296, So.
RT 78 Nick Landry, 6-7, 296, Jr.
PK 47 Ross Thevenot, 6-0, 186, Jr.

DE 92 Reggie Scott, 6-4, 258, Sr.
DT 96 Tony Bryant, 6-3, 256, So.
Position Spotlight: The Tulane tackles were excellent at times last year, and the defense needs good ones to emerge to have any hope of improving. Fortunately for the Green Wave, the undersized Bryant appears to be a keeper. Always moving, he makes up for his girth with sheer want-to.

NT 97 Julian Shives-Sams, 6-3, 280, Sr.
DE 90 Adam Kwentua, 6-3, 259, So.
LB 33 David Skehan, 6-0, 222, Sr.
LB 55 David Kirksey, 6-1, 225, Jr.
LB 6 Travis Burks, 6-0, 208, Jr.
CB 28 Phillip Davis, 5-10, 160, Fr.
SS 38 Corey Sonnier, 5-10, 195, So.
FS 24 Chinonso Echebelem, 6-1, 208, Jr.
CB 12 Josh Lumar, 5-10, 176, Jr.
P 40 Darren deRochemont, 5-9, 192, So.

Tulsa

QB 5 David Johnson, 6-3, 217, Sr.

Position Spotlight: Who'll get the keys to the car? If an adequate replacement can be found for Paul Smith, Tulsa could be the favorites to win the Conference USA title. The high-octane offense is still looking for its triggerman, but Johnson has a slight edge over Clark Harrell and JUCO transfer Jacob Bower going into the fall. Whichever one does the best job of keeping the mistakes to a minimum could get the job.

RB 25 Tarrion Adams, 6-1, 210, Sr.
FB 9 Charles Clay, 6-3, 222, So.
WR 84 Jesse Meyer, 6-4, 201, Jr.
FL 2 A.J. Whitmore, 5-9, 170, So.
TE 86 Jake Collums, 6-4, 242, Jr.
OT 78 Tyler Holmes, 6-3, 299, RFr.
OG 76 Curt Puckett, 6-4, 297, Jr.
C 65 Jody Whaley, 6-4, 302, Jr.
OG 53 Justin Morsey, 6-2, 282, Jr.
OT 70 Rodrick Thomas, 6-5, 354, Jr.
PK 29 Jarod Tracy, 6-0, 165, Sr.

DE 80 Odrick Ray, 6-3, 220, So.
NG 99 Terrel Nemons, 6-4, 330, Sr.
DE 93 Moton Hopkins, 6-3, 270, Sr.
LB 8 George Clinkscale, 6-0, 241, Jr.
LB 43 Mike Bryan, 6-3, 216, Jr.
LB 40 Tanner Antle, 6-4, 210, So.
CB 18 Jon Destin, 6-0, 185, Sr.
LB 10 Roy Roberts, 5-11, 205, Sr.
LB 42 Ade’ Manga, 6-2, 210, Jr.
FS 24 Charles Davis, 5-9, 170, Jr.
CB 27 Kenny D. Sims, 5-11, 192, Jr.
P 35 Michael Such, 6-2, 205, So.

UTEP

QB 10 Trevor Vitattoe, 6-2, 215, So.
RB 13 Donald Buckram, 5-10, 190, So.
WR 18 Jeff Moturi, 6-0, 180, Jr.
WR 88 Tufick Shadrawy, 6-2, 190, Jr.
WR 2 Kris Adams, 6-3, 190, So.
TE 87 Jamar Hunt, 6-7, 260, Sr.
OT 71 Mike Aguayo, 6-4, 290, Jr.
OG 78 Cameron Raschke, 6-4, 315, Jr.
C 62 Robby Felix, 6-3, 295, Sr.
OG 74 Rod Huntley, 6-3, 310, So.
OT 64 Colby Meek, 6-4, 305, Jr.

Position Spotlight: Oneil Cousins was arguably the best player on last year's offense and won't easily be replaced. NFL tackles don't hang around El Paso on a regular basis. Meek wasn't always great this off-season, but he was good enough to be an adequate fill-in.

PK 10 Jose Martinez, 5-10, 200, Sr.

DE 91 James Olalekan, 6-2, 270, Sr.
NT 95 Steve Riddick, 5-11, 275, Jr.
DE 13 Robert Soleyjacks, 6-2, 250, So.
LB 7 Nuuese Punimata, 6-1, 225, Sr.
LB 5 Adam Vincent, 6-3, 240, Sr.
LB 52 Royzell Smith, 6-1, 210, RFr.
Miner 11 Anthony Morrow, 6-0, 205, So.
CB 2 Josh Ferguson, 5-9, 185, Sr.
S 23 Da’Mon Cromartie Smith, 6-2, 205, Jr.
S 26 Roddray Walker, 6-1, 185, Sr.
CB 47 Cornelius Brown, 5-11, 200, Jr.
P 98 Greg Hiett, 6-5, 210, Jr.
