Arizona – Tight end Rob Gronkowski (strep throat) is out against Idaho and could miss three to four weeks as he awaits test results for mononucleosis. Sophomore A.J. Simmons will replace him in the starting lineup against the Vandals. … Punter Keenan Crier will be available Saturday after being limited because of offseason back surgery.        

Arizona State – Wide receiver Chris McGaha (foot) is expected to play against Northern Arizona. McGaha, the Sun Devils' leader in receptions and yards last season, will wear an orthotic in his cleat to stabilize his big toe after offseason surgery.

California – Corner Darian Hagan is ahead of sophomore Chris Conte on the Bears' depth chart released Monday. Conte started three games last season and had 32 tackles. … Starting tight end Cameron Morrah returned to action Monday after suffering an ankle injury in practice.    

Oregon – Projected starting quarterback Nate Costa faces another surgery on his left knee and will miss eight to 10 weeks. Costa, who tore his ACL and MCL last season after previously undergoing reconstructive surgery in high school, will be replace by Justin Roeper.

Oregon State – Guard Jeremy Perry will not travel with the Beavers for their season opener as he recovers from a knee injury. Adam Speer will replace him in the starting lineup. … Safety Al Afalava is suspended against Stanford for an offseason DUI arrest. … The status of QB Sean Canfield remains unclear after surgery to repair a torn labrum in January. 

Stanford – Starting left guard Gustav Rydstedt suffered a concussion last week and is out against Oregon State. … Free safety Austin Yancy will miss at least a month with a hamstring injury. … Freshman quarterback Andrew Luck has made a strong impression in fall camp, but still finds himself at No. 4 on the depth chart.

UCLA – True freshman Rahim Moore will start at strong safety as Bret Lockett serves a one-game suspension. … WR Terrence Austin left practice because of a sprained wrist but X-rays were negative. … Freshman Kevin Prince will be the Bruins' third quarterback against Tennessee as Osaar Rashaan deals with pain in his left knee. 

USC – Quarterback Mark Sanchez is expected to start against Virginia only weeks after dislocating his kneecap in practice. However, Coach Pete Carroll cautioned Monday that he might not play the whole game because of conditioning. Redshirt freshman Aaron Corp should serve as the No. 2 after Arkansas transfer Mitch Mustain's struggles during fall camp. … Corner Shareece Wright is questionable with a groin injury and Josh Pinkard could start in his place.    

Washington – Freshman Chris Polk will start at tailback against the Ducks. … Center Juan Garcia continues his remarkable recovery from a Lisfranc injury and will start Saturday night. … The Huskies will bus to Eugene in response to rising travel costs. 

Washington State – WR Jared Karstetter will start as a true freshman because of injuries to Jeshua Anderson (hernia) and Daniel Blackledge (knee). … Safety Xavier Hicks will be replaced by JUCO transfer Myron Beck in the starting lineup as Hicks serves a three-game suspension.
