Big East Game of the Week

Pitt 26 ... South Florida 21
South Florida got out to a hot start with a blocked punt for a score from Charlton Sinclair, but Pitt quickly bounced back with 17 straight first half points highlighted by a Jonathan Baldwin 52-yards touchdown grab and a six-yard LeSean McCoy run, but USF came back. A 22-yard Jessie Hester scoring grab with under five minutes to go gave the Bulls a one point leas, but the Panthers went 60 yards on three plays finishing with a McCoy three-yard score. USF had its chances throughout the game but got a field goal blocked and missed on a fake field goal. The Panthers held on to the ball for 36:54.

Big East Player of the Week
Pitt RB LeSean McCoy ran 28 times for 142 yards and two touchdowns, and caught three passes for 23 yards in the win over USF.

Conference
Roundup

Cincinnati … Find a quarterback, plug him in, win. Cincinnati seems to get production no matter who the quarterback is. The coaching staff does a great job of putting its passers in the position to make plays, and against Marshall, Chazz Anderson was able to get the offense moving after a mediocre first half by hitting on the short to midrange passes. He didn't show off much in the way of mobility, and he ate the ball instead of forcing the pass, but it was a good game. It also helped that the rest of the skill players came through with nice games. Jacob Ramsey is a reliable runner, while Dominick Goodman came up big in the red zone.
Connecticut … The Huskies actually played relatively well in the loss to North Carolina, but the yards from the offense didn’t turn into nearly enough points and the special teams became a nightmare when it came to keeping the punter clean. This might have been the team’s first loss, but it wasn’t in conference play. As long as UConn beats Rutgers next week, everything will be back on track.
Louisville … Didn’t Play This Week
Pitt All of a sudden, Pitt is playing up to expectations. After beating Iowa and South Florida in the last few weeks, and with LeSean McCoy and the running game going, now the Panthers have to be considered the favorites to win the Big East title. Getting steadier performance from QB Bill Stull is a must, while the defense has to stay effective. Scott McKillop had a huge day making 12 tackles with two sacks. While this wasn't as big a win as the win over West Virginia at the end of last year, it could turn out to be more important for Pitt. Now the program really does look like everything's coming together.
Rutgers … Ray Rice, where are you? The Baltimore Raven is desperately needed by a Rutgers running game that’s non-existent. It only came up with 72 yards against West Virginia, and while QB Mike Teel had his moments, the passing game was a nightmare at times with too many dropped passes and misfires. This just isn’t a sharp team. It hung around with West Virginia and had a chance late to pull it out, but again, a missed pass proved costly.
South Florida
USF has been inconsistent all season long and it proved costly against Pitt. 11 penalties, missed opportunities, no run defense, little from the passing game, it wasn't a good performance. Matt Grothe didn't have much of a chance in the first half, but he brought the team back in the second half before stalling. The loss of All-America DE Georgia Selvie, who was out for the second straight game, proved costly. The Bulls could've used a steady pass rush to get the Panthers off the field early on.
Syracuse … Didn’t Play This Week
West Virginia… West Virginia won the battle against Rutgers, but it was extremely costly. Pat White is getting whacked around, missing the fourth quarter after getting knocked in the head. The team will also be without star LB Reed Williams, who plays in two games this year but will be out for the rest of the year with shoulder problems. Jarrett Brown is going to get more and more work despite White’s status; he needs to. The defense did a good job of holding on against the Scarlet Knights, but it helped that the RU passing game kept making mistakes.
