ACC Game of the Week

Wake Forest 12 ... Clemson 7
D.J. Boldin caught a seven-yard touchdown pass with 5:28 to play, and Clemson couldn't answer despite a big 19-yard fourth down completion to keep the final drive alive. In the defensive slugfest, Shane Popham, in place of an injured Sam Swank, hit field goals from 22 and 32 yards out for the Demon Deacons, but Clemson had the lead until late thanks to a juggling 10-yard touchdown catch form Jacoby Ford. Wake Forest outgained Clemson 342 yards to 198, while the Tigers converted just two of 14 third down chances.

ACC Player of the Week
North Carolina LB Quan Sturdivant made 10 tackles, half a tackle for loss, and an interception return for a score in the win over Notre Dame.

Conference
Roundup

Boston College … Didn’t Play This Week
Clemson What happened to the Clemson team that was supposed to be such an offensive juggernaut? Wake Forest's defense is fantastic, but it's not so good that the Tigers should've been completely shut down. The defensive line cranked out 13 tackles for loss, and it did the best it could do considering the offense was awful. Cullen Harper was inaccurate, misfiring on too many throws, while James Davis couldn't find any room to run. If Tommy Bowden wasn't in trouble before, he is now.
Duke … Didn’t Play This Week
Florida State … Didn’t Play This Week
Georgia Tech… Uh oh. With Josh Nesbitt out with a hamstring problem and Jaybo Shaw sitting because of a concussion, the Georgia Tech offense went nowhere with Calvin Booker at the helm. The running game was miserable, Booker completed just 3-of-11 passes, and the offense gained just nine first downs in the near-miss win over Gardner-Webb. Call it a letdown game with a trip to Clemson ahead, but the offense needs to get Shaw or Nesbitt back to have a chance. The defense can’t be expected to carry the day again.
Maryland … Didn’t Play This Week
Miami … Miami needs to come up with some more answers on offense in a real hurry. Robert Marve is gutty and isn’t afraid to throw the tough passes, but he was awful against UCF. Graig Cooper ran well, with a career-high 23 carries, but he didn’t get much room to move. Fortunately, the defense came through with a stonewall effort keeping the Knights to a mere 78 yards with just four on the ground. Don’t assume a win at Duke next week; the Canes are far, far away from being consistent.
North Carolina … The Tar Heel defense is making everyone screw up. It’s giving up plenty of yards, but it’s forcing mistakes thanks to the pass rush from Bruce Carter and the line. The secondary is taking advantage of every opportunity. Notre Dame seemed to have problems with miscommunication on a couple of big plays, and the secondary didn’t miss. Cam Sexton was mistake free, failing to throw an interception, while Hakeem Nicks did a great job of picking up the slack with Brandon Tate out. The offense needs playmakers and can’t be without Tate.
NC State … Didn’t Play This Week
Virginia
… Virginia has turned its season around on the lines. The pass rush was tremendous against East Carolina, rushing Patrick Pinkney all game long, while the offensive line paved the way for a big rushing day. The offense did a great job of holding on to the ball in the fourth quarter, keeping it for 10:18, just when ECU was getting hot. Beating Maryland and East Carolina was nice, but if the Cavaliers can beat North Carolina next week, it’ll be time to really start getting excited.
Virginia Tech … Didn’t Play This Week
Wake Forest
… Wake Forest isn't pretty, it isn't going to win anything on style points, but it doesn't matter. The defense was flat-nasty against Clemson, holding firm time and again on third downs while being a brick wall against the run allowing just 21 yards on the ground. The offensive line struggled, with Clemson getting into the backfield way too easily, and it took way too long to put points on the board, Clemson was allowed to hang around way too long, but the team did a great job of bouncing back from the Navy loss. Now, the ACC is Wake's for the taking.
