Pac 10 Game of
the Week
UCLA 23 … Stanford 20
Kevin Craft overcame an uneven game with a game-winning seven-yard touchdown
pass to Cory Harkey with 10 seconds to play. Craft was sacked seven times, threw
an interception and lost a costly early fumble, but he threw a two-yard
touchdown pass to Terrence Austin in the third quarter and led the way to an
11-play, 87-yard drive in the final few minutes for the win. Kai Forbath added
three field goals for the Bruins. Toby Gerhard ran for two short scores for the
Cardinal in the first half, but the offense could only come up with two Aaron
Zagory field goals the rest of the way. The two teams combined for 17
penalties.
Pac 10
Player of the Week
Arizona RB Keola Antolin ran 21 times for 149 yards
and three touchdowns in the win over California.

Roundup
Arizona
… Keona Antolin? Arizona now has another
weapon to give USC and future opponents
something to worry about. Willie Tuitama
was fine against Cal, but he didn’t have
to carry the offense with his line
getting a good push on the Bear front
and Antolin took advantage. It wasn’t a
smooth win, but it was an explosive one
thanks to the 28-point third quarter.
That’s going to be the way the team
rolls from here on; it’s not going to be
consistent, but it should keep on
winning.
Arizona State … Didn’t Play This
Week
California … Just how important
is Jahvid Best? It’s obvious that Cal
wants to run the offense around him, and
he blew through Arizona for a 67-yard
touchdown, but he’s too banged up and
couldn’t stay on the field. Nate
Longshore wasn’t bad, but he wasn’t
effective enough to keep things moving.
A bigger concern is the defense that got
ripped up by the Arizona running game.
The Pac 10 title isn’t out of reach, but
first, the Bears have to avoid the crash
that happened when last year started
going south.
Oregon … Didn’t Play This Week
Oregon State … When everything is
working, Oregon State can be a fun team.
James and Jacquizz Rodgers are so
exciting and so good, it’s easy to
overlook the play of WR Sammie
Stroughter, who has been a steady
playmaker for the passing game. Lyle
Moevao was nearly perfect against
Washington. A solid 3-1 in Pac 10 play,
the Beavers still control their own
destiny. Win out and it’s off to the
Rose Bowl. Arizona State is up next.
Stanford … The Cardinal pass rush
was phenomenal against UCLA, but the
defense couldn’t hold in the final
minutes. Toby Gerhart is the offense.
There was no passing game whatsoever
from Tavita Pritchard and eventually,
the Bruins were able to stop Gerhart.
Even so, Stanford had a chance to win
and couldn’t close. Going forward, the
penalties have to slow down after
committing 10 for 103 yards.
UCLA … The offensive line was
awful, Kevin Craft was shaky, and there
was no running game, but UCLA found a
way to get by Stanford. The defense held
when absolutely needed, and Craft came
through when he had to. For now, just
getting wins is enough, no matter how
they look. The aesthetics will have to
come later, but first, better play from
the offensive line is a must to stay in
the hunt for a bowl game.
USC … The numbers against
Washington State are staggering. 11
tackles for loss, 625 yards to 116. 28
first downs to four. 12.5 yards per pass
attempt. This was a USC team that
was fully focused, fully fired up, and
fully ready to play up to its full
capabilities against a weak and sad
Cougar team. The third teamers could’ve
been out there and this would’ve still
been a blowout. The team has to keep
this same attitude going forward and
bring the same focus game in and game
out.
Washington … Nothing is working.
The offense keeps sputtering, and was a
detriment early on against Oregon State,
the defense is giving up big plays, and
the special teams are struggling in a
big way with two missed field goals.
Jake Locker really was the offense, and
the team, and while Ronnie Fouch is able
to make a few plays here and there, he’s
not able to lead the way to consistent
scoring drives. The team’s problems are
hardly Fouch’s fault; the young team
still needs to find something that works
on both sides of the ball.
Washington State … Fine, so
Washington State can’t hang with USC.
Few teams can. The big problems was how
the Cougars had nothing, absolutely
nothing, it could do right. Picking up
just four first downs and 116 yards of
total offense will make for a long day.
It’s going to take a long while to turn
things around, the team needs a talent
infusion, but for now, just finding one
things that works would be a plus going
forward.
